Haoward Chaykin was born in 1950 in New Jersey but raised in East Flatbush and Brownsville, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. His parents were separated and he was raised by his mother and adoptive father. He started out as a gofer for the legendary comic book artist Gil Kane at 19, where he honed his skills as an artist and a writer. Before starting to work in film and television, he was one of the pioneers of the graphic novel.
