Next Level

xeyes posted a month ago

Good morning Tom, I added Next Level to the site but have not found anywhere that gives good titles to the episodes. I have created titles based on the opening of each episode or what I could find online. Just wanted to make sure this is OK, or would it be better to go with Episode 1, Episode 2, etc for titles?

https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/84780/next-level/episodes

Haven't found good dates for when they aired yet.

xeyes posted a month ago

Yep, i had found that but it doesn't list episode numbers and only have 4 episodes listed. So probably best to use Episode 1, 2, etc. Please confirm and I'll correct.

I stand corrected, I was looking at the small title above the bolded title and since only the first 4 said Next Level I was thinking the others were from another series. My apologies there. I will get these entered along with the dates. Thanks for helping out!

Press release news reporting

Magitroopa posted a month ago

Figured I'd ask beforehand and make sure I'm doing it properly... I've recently been trying to post more news recently, such as this and this (as far as I can tell, I've done those right- feel free to let me know if otherwise).

How would I go about posting news that is a press release? I'm wanting to post this news for The Mega-Brands That Built America. From looking at the news policies, would this be correct? Or is there anything I'm doing wrong there?

Hey Magitroopa

You would need to go direct from History Channel's press site instead of using Futon, but aside from that it would be great. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks

Tom

Thank you- and with this news today regarding ABC renewals, how would that get handled? Because I see sometimes press releases covering multiple shows are only added for 1 show (such as this and this).

For these four renewals, would I do similarly and only add the news to one of the shows, or would I be fine to add 4 separate news articles regarding this news ('Celebrity Jeopardy!' Renewed for Season 4 at ABC; 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' Renewed for Season 6 at ABC; 'Shark Tank' Renewed for Season 17 at ABC; 'America’s Funniest Home Videos' Renewed for Season 36 at ABC)?

I think the preference would be for each show, ive been a little AWOL at the moment so the days I am here I'm sometimes posting 3 days of releases. I'll tag @LadyShelley in here to confirm though.

Magitroopa posted a month ago

Alrightie, thanks for the reply. And if you couldn't tell from the spam of my news articles today, I think I've got you all covered on today's news.... NBC having a big cancellation party today! 💀💀💀

LadyShelley posted a month ago

Yes, you would want to add four news items, one for each show. Just make sure the headline is unique for each show.

One more question... I've noticed that press release news items posted on here usually don't link back to the press releases. Should the link/source URL still be included for press releases or no?

For example, if I were to be posting this press release regarding this year's "The Tony Awards: Act One", would I be doing title/snippet/URL/body, or just title/snippet/body?

I mainly ask this as the Primary Sources and News Items page says:

As an information source, we need to be that source. We want people linking to us, not the other way around.

We shouldn't be sending our users to someone else's site for information.

While the News policy page says:

Please make sure you include the URL where you found the news item. We want to be able to credit the source.

Just wanting to clarify how press releases should be handled beforehand. Honestly, that's why I've moreso been sticking to sites like Deadline Hollywood and only doing title/snippet/URL when posting news items here.

I didnt realise we had two conflicting bits of information, so tagging in @LadyShelley . If you link to a site that isn't a official release that's when we include the link, for example Deadline. If your using a press release direct from WBD press site or BBC Media Centre that's when you don't include the link, however sometimes some press sites will say something like. 'Please link back to Max' in this instance youd add that link into the article instead.

What you should be doing (and what me or Shelley will sometimes edit) is checking first if the official press site has a release up instead of using Deadline. If the Hacks piece for example has a official release, wed switch out Deadlines link and keep the official release in place, youll still be credited for adding the news and we'd just add a comment to the article so you'd know why it's been changed.

Using sites like Deadline or Variety should be a last resort, not a first stop. The problem we were having was that people would post links to whatever online gossip rag they found instead of using primary sources. The absolute best source is a press release. It can be quoted in the body of the news item and we then have a permanent record. However, I know important news, like cancellations, isn't often available through a press release. In those, hopefully rare, cases where the only source is another site like Deadline or Variety, then we do need to link back to them as they were the reporting agency.

The 1% Club Australia

BazzaG posted 2 months ago

HI Tom,

I'm wondering why the episode that was broadcast in January has been changed to a major special given that it is listed as S03E02 on the 7Plus webpage:

https://7plus.com.au/the-1-club

There will be a number of themed episodes this season, such as, Ladies night, etc.

Tonights episode is also S03E04 ... which again is also not unusual for Seven as they frequently broadcast  episodes out-of-sequence across multiple shows.

Barry...

We follow press releases as per policy, if you read the releases the first episode is announced as a apecial and then next release says new season starts.

MAVTV / RACER Network

TomSouthwell posted 3 months ago

My thoughts are that we change to Racer and just make a note in the network summary that this is currently happening. Any objections?

Magitroopa posted 3 months ago

All fine with me- the website itself still uses the MAVTV url and has its logo still around, along with RACER logos, so probably can get rid of whatever note once it has fully transitioned over.
