There was always something a bit off about Sugar, something I couldn't quite pin down, but still... intriguing. After 6 episodes, I think I'm finally starting to understand what drew me to the show in the first place. I'll definitely be tuning in for more.

I don't know why someone has updated the listing for this show to say it's "in development", and will premiere in June 2024, when it aired in Australia back in November of 2023. All the episode reviews posted here months ago should be a clue that the show is not still "in development". The US isn't the only TV market in the world, and just because they're lagging behind with this show doesn't change the facts. So to be clear, the American premiere of this 2023 show is in June of 2024. If you already saw it in Australia, or on some pirate feed, there's no need to tune in again, unless you just want to see Krysten Ritter covered in pink goo  again.

Prime Video is starting to look a bit like FOX: They'd green-light great sci-fi shows, but drop them after one season if they weren't immediately profitable. No effort to market them or grow the audience, just a quick death and a lot of loose ends. While other networks, including NBC, ABC, and Netflix, have done this as well, FOX was especially notorious for it, with shows like Firefly, Almost Human, Terra Nova, Minority Report, Alcatraz, Space: Above and Beyond, and Alien Nation all being axed after one season. It's too bad. If you've read the books, there was a lot more they could have done with this.

Previous posters have mentioned how well the 70s soundtrack resonates with older viewers, but let's not forget how well Ray McKinnon channelled Dennis Weaver when playing Gene Jenkins. As one of those older viewers, every time I saw or heard him, I could swear Weaver had miraculously returned from the dead to play one last role. And he was just one of many excellent casting choices. I haven't seen all the John Wick movies, so probably missed a lot of Easter eggs and callbacks, but this series stands on its own, whether you're a big Wick fan or not. Highly recommended.
