With bicentennial celebrations starting to ramp up, Barney and the detectives have to deal with an unusual array of suspects, Wojo and Yemana investigate a pair of horse thefts involving the NYPD Horse Unit and a hansom cab driver. 

Due to torrential rain flooding the city, Barney and the detectives are concerned that the roof will collapse soon. Meanwhile, Chano and Harris bring in a nightclub comic, who incited a riot in the middle of his act.

Facing budget cuts, the city starts to shut down various precincts. As a result, detective Dietrich gets assigned to the twelfth, causing Fish to go on restricted duty. He then goes home for lunch to how life will be like once he has to retire.

The detectives of the twelfth precinct have to deal with a man who comes to fill out a missing persons report, convinced that his wife is Jean Harlow. Barney has to deal with a pair of overzealous women detectives who arrest a drug dealer on a college campus. Fish looks to his colleagues for advice on how to lose a little bit of weight.

Due to the city's budget constraints and concerns that the twelfth precinct could get shut down, Barney and the detectives learn that the neighborhood businesses have started paying protection money to area gangs. As a result, a criminal has a hard time turning himself in for a recent armed robbery.

When Wojo and Yemana bring in a department store shoplifter, the situation gets rather tricky when they see that she's pregnant and soon goes into labor. Luckily, Barney's wife Liz arrives and is able to help the detectives deliver the woman's baby. Fish goes out on a call to stop a jumper, looking to broker peace in the Middle East.

After Wojo gets targeted by a sniper, Inspector Luger stops by the squad room to see how the investigation is going, and soon becomes a target himself. Fish then helps a husband file a complaint against a conman trying to sell a seat for flights to Saturn to his wife.

When Wojo has to transport a suspect to Cleveland, he admits to Barney he has a fear of flying, resulting in Barney offering to send another detective in his place. Fish assists an honest citizen when he turns in a wallet he found with a large amount of money in it.

When Chano and Wentworth are assigned to crowd control at a block party in Manhattan South's neighborhood, Wentworth makes a collar of a would be assassin. She then gets furious when the detectives from Manhattan South takes credit for it. It's then up to Barney and Harris to smooth things over when Lt. Scanlon arrives at the twelft precinct and makes things worse. Fish and Yemana bring in a young man at a laundromat for indicent exposure while doing his laundry.

Fish and the detectives of the twelfth precinct are trying to find new ideas to help close down the massage parlors that are wreaking havoc on the reputable businesses on second avenue. Chano and Harris arrest a mugger who is in her eighties.

Wojo and the other detectives have a psychiatrist pay the squad room a visit after a mugging suspect's public defender files a report alleging Wojo threatened his client during the arrest. He is less than thrilled when the psychiatrist recommends he be placed on restricted duty.

After Fish brings in a young man after he tries to mug him, he soon becomes attracted to the boy's mother. The man who found $3500 in a wallet a few weeks prior comes to the squad room to see if the money has been claimed yet. Chano and Wojo bring in a suspect for attempted robbery at a hearing aid center.

Chano and Yemana bring in a pair of suspects for disturbing the peace at a nearby hotel bar. Wojo and Harris are lead on a chase through the city's sewer system by a notorious jewel thief known as "The Mole." Meanwhile, Fish contemplates having minor surgery done and is surprised at how much the procedure will cost, even with insurance.

When Wojo is assigned to work as a Public Information Officer for the week, he becomes panicked at learning there's no citywide evacuation procedure in the event of a major emergency. Harris and Fish go on a call at a neighborhood pawn shop and soon meet a young girl suspected of trying to sell stolen goods.

When Wojo brings in a suspect for breaking into a warehouse he soon collapses. Once a doctor gets called up to the squad room to diagnose the suspect, everyone is ordered to stay under quarantine until tests determine if he has chicken pox or smallpox. Meanwhile, Marty and his partner Darryl turn to Barney for help in getting a character reference in order to be able to move to San Francisco, and Fish books a prostitue.

As the detectives and their guests settle in for the night of quarantine at the twelfth precinct, waiting on news of the suspect's diagnosis, everyone starts getting on one another's nerves.

The squad investigates a hijacked bus that crashes in the neighborhood.

It's Election Day and Wojo annoys everyone in the squad room by asking if they voted yet and who they voted for. He then gets in trouble when the suspect he escorted a suspect to a polling place escapes. Harris arrests a shoplifting suspect at a department store. A woman is arrested for assault after throwing a toilet seat out of her apartment window, claiming she did so because her husband is keeping her from voting.

The usual loonies arrive due to the full moon outside, which includes a man who swears he is turning into a werewolf.

Wojo brings in a suspect for disturbing the peace when he causes a scene by insisting that the world will be ending at 5:30pm that afternoon. Barney and Bernice worry about Fish when he arrives late for work when he is out helping a pair of kids from a nearby group home. Harris and Wojo have to arrest a man who hasn't left his apartment since World War II for failing to show up for jury duty.

Wojo brings in a suspect for failing to assist a police officer during a mugging on the subway, but Barney fails to see how a crime was committed. Shady lawyer Arnold Ripner is then called in for how the suspect was treated. As Fish laments how the police pension fund is being invested, Det. Battista arrests a flasher while on her way to the donut shop.

Wojo arrests an assault suspect who claims to have multiple personality order. After the suspect's doctor comes to help the detectives treat him after his other personality takes over, Yemana tries to prolong the situation so he can obtain racing tips to use as a later date. Meanwhile, the neighborhood has to deal with a power outage.

Fish ends up having to don a Santa suit on Christmas Eve to catch a robber; Yemana romances a lovely mugging victim; a frustrated department store shopper is arrested.

Wojo's girlfriend bakes brownies with a surprise inside and Wojo brings them to work and shares with the guys.

While the city is dealing with a first-stage smog alert, Det. Batista arrests a graffiti artist defacing city property with vulgar messages. When Harris and Fish are called out to the Brooklyn Bridge to talk down an attempted jumper, Fish gets injured due to passing out from the smog and got lost on his way to the hospital.

After Harris makes a wager with Yemana that he can't stop gambling, Yemana makes a counter wager to Harris to see if he could quit smoking. Barney finds himself in a tricky situation when a blind shoplifter is brought in, and an apartment building owner, looking to evict a tenant son his building can be demolished. He then finds a solution to help both men. Wojo has to appear in court but has stage fright when he tries to testify against an alleged slumlord.

When a report by the Rand Corporation appears in Newsweek casting police detectives in a negative light, the men at the twelfth precinct are less than thrilled by the article. As a result, Wojo has to spend one week a month walking the beat on uniform patrol with the other third grade detectives. However when he hears the news, Wojo declares he would rather quit than go back on patrol.

A suicidal couple is brought into the police station after a man turns himself in for murder. A criminal who is brought into the station house sets a fire that threatens to engulf the station.

A couple comes to the twelfth precinct, looking for Barney's assistance in rescuing their daughter from a cult. Meanwhile, Yemana is in a panic after his bookie gets arrested, and Harris is less than thrilled when a magazine he sold a short story to makes some changes to it before publishing it. Fish's pride takes a hit when Bernice arrives with news she intends to interview for a job in the city.

After receiving a complaint from a disgruntled wife, Barney investigates a sex clinic that appears to be more like a brothel. Harris investigates a series of robberies that appears to committed by a juvenile. Tired of being passed over for a promotion to detective, Levitt announces to the guys in the squad room that he plans on quitting the force.

Barney and the other detectives learn that Harris is moonlighting as captain of security at a neighborhood theater. A suspect is brought in with stolen goods that is traced back to a thrift shop run by a parish priest. When Wojo arrests a mentally challenged young man, he and Barney soon suspect he is being used by a neighborhood bookie.

Wojo lands Barney in trouble with the State Department when he grants a Russian defector asylum during an arrest. Marty is brought in for possessing a small amount of marijuana, possibly causing problems with his probation.

It's Fish's turn on the mugging detail and everyone has an opinion on his appearance. Yemana has to assist a bigoted Army Sgt. in charge of a local recruiting office when he receives a bomb threat call. Meanwhile, Harris has a genealogy company trace his family tree and doesn't like what was learned.

Barney starts to feel the effects of a possible strike of the uniformed police officers and detectives and soon gets an earful about it from Inspector Luger. Dietrich and Harris assist a woman who gets robbed by her date from a computer dating service.

With the unauthorized strike still in effect, Barney and Luger have their hands full doing all the work in the twelfth precinct.

It's the day before Fish retires and he's nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Barney and the detectives have to deal with a group of disgruntled business owners forming a vigilante organization to deal with the crime rate in the neighborhood.

When Fish finally arrives at the twelfth precinct after worrying his wife and colleagues, he refuses to acknowledge he has to retire because of his age. Dietrich and Harris arrest a paranoid man demolishing the security cameras at a supermarket.

Barney and the detectives are in for a surprise and become paranoid when the exterminator dealing with a cockroach problem in the squad room discovers a listening device.

An attorney for a large chemical company comes to the twelfth precinct to ask for assistance in identifying the person who has been vandalizing their properties. Wojo brings in a homeless woman who was the victim of a mugging so she could fill out a report.

When Fish returns to the twelfth precinct to fill out some paperwork for his pension, he assists his former colleagues in locating the corpse that was kidnapped from a nearby mortuary.

As Wojo anxiously awaits the results of his sergeant's exam, Harris laments not being able to find a suitable apartment to move into. Thanks to the bright idea of Yemana, the detectives try using a tv guide to figure out where a copy cat criminal will strike next, based on what will be on television for the upcoming week. Harris brings in a drunk when he attempts to rob a liquor store without the use of a weapon.

With the city experiencing a blizzard, Barney and the detectives are currently having to deal with a suspect dying while in custody and the coroner's office unable to come and retrieve the body. Dietrich and Harris arrest an eccentric man who claims the world is about to end with an upcoming ice age.

Barney looses his cool when he discovers that Lieutenant Scanlon has enlisted the aid of a drug pusher to test the members of the precincts honesty. Wojo has taxi cab problems.

The FBI arrives at the twelfth precinct to help Barney and the detectives investigate a college student who inadvertently built a functional atomic bomb.

Wojo and Yemana bring in a suspect for causing a ruckus at a cryogenics lab after he discovers they accidentally destroyed his last viable sample before he and his wife can start a family. Harris continues to have bad luck in finding a new apartment to rent.

Levitt brings in a couple for fighting on the street and causing a scene. Dietrich and Wojo arrest a man for destruction of property and is told a wild story of ghostly possession. Yemana goes on a call to a bakery accused of making and selling obscene baked goods.

Dietrich and Harris arrest a sugar addict when he attacks a woman at a local candy shop. Barney and Wojo try to talk a retired man out of becoming a bounty hunter. Yemana suffers an appendicitis attack and gets taken to the hospital.

A woman arrives at the twelfth precinct, looking to charge her husband with rape. The detectives are tasked with finding a master thief who robs his victims in different disguises each time he commits his crimes. Yemana is happy when he learns the city legalizes off-track betting and won't have to make his wagers through his bookie.

After Wojo brings in a pair of tenants for defying an eviction order at a nearby hotel, Barney finds himself in a sticky situation when the available departments that normally would help have been giving them the runaround. Dietrich gets a call for a store robbery. Meanwhile, Luger seeks Barney's guid on how to spend some of his vacation time.

With Barney under modified duty for failure to evict the tenants of the hotel, the NYPD SWAT team gets called in. Meanwhile, Dietrich's suspect is able to recall who she is.

When a new female detective gets assigned to the twelfth precinct, her jealous husband starts causing problems with her colleagues. Barney attempts to give Harris some advice about his living arrangement with Dietrich. Harris and Yemana get a call about a robber and are surprised to find out he's confined to a wheelchair. Wojo brings some private problems to work, resulting in his colleagues awkwardly trying to avoid giving him some advice.

With Barney out on a call, Harris is tasked with filing a report on a nearby Art Gallery when a concerned citizen is offended by paintings she deems obscene. The detectives then get concerned when a call comes in about Barney being shot at on that robbery call. Barney and his wife Liz then have a heart to heart about the dangers he faces while on duty.

A robbery suspect Harris brings calls his brother for help in escaping, resulting in the detectives, Levitt and Luger being held hostage. Wojo and Officer Licori bring in a ventriloquist and a woman for fighting over the obscene comments made by the ventriloquist's doll.

As the detectives await the results of their work evaluations, Wojo accidentally walks in on Liccori as she uses the restroom. Harris brings in a suspect that caused a disturbance at the bank and only identifies himself as the number 1223. Wojo and Dietrich go out on a vandalism call at a porn shop owned by an elderly couple and are soon surprised at who the perpetrators are.

When Barney questions Wojo about his tardiness in arriving at work, his explanation is due to seeing a UFO on his way home from Staten Island. Harris assists a woman who wants something to be done about her husband who is liquidating their assets in order to buy gold.

As the residents of the city get caught up in the festivities leading up to Mayor Koch's inauguration, Harris gets a tempting offer a permanent spot to work on his security detail. Barney fields a call from an anonymous fanatic threatening to end his life as a political threat. Wojo brings in a suspect for possession of marijuana for medical use. Dietrich brings in an eccentric elderly woman accused of sending threatening letters.

After Wojo brings in a prostitute and her john, a call comes in about a political activist kidnapping a department store magnate, resulting in Barney and his detectives to find the victim before his captors d something drastic.

After Wojo volunteers for the ransom drop off, the prostitute he arrested decides to stay in the squad room to see if the department store magnate is safely released from his captors. Meanwhile, Harris brings in a rioter from the department store for resisting arrest.

Harris is less than thrilled at pulling mugging duty in the park and is reluctant to shave his mustache. Wojo and Yemana work on assisting a woman on a missing persons case involving her father. Dietrich brings in the host of television science show after going berserk when a teenaged assistant insulted him on air.

After going out on a dog fighting call with Yemana, Wojo gets bit by a potentially rabid German Shepherd. Dietrich makes matters worse for him when he starts sharing some sobering statistics regarding rabies treatments. Harris is tasked with aiding a wife in filling out a missing persons report for her husband who disappeared. Barney shares with the guys that he and Liz are going through a trial separation and they try to cheer him up about his situation.

When Wojo brings in a couple for attempting to kidnap a woman at the bus terminal, he unwittingly uncovers an illegal adoption ring. Harris and Dietrich go on a call at a nearby park and arrest a language professor on obscenity charges. Meanwhile, Barney gives Levitt some career advice when he finds out that Levitt is taking stimulants to get through an extend shift.

Lt. Scanlon pays the detectives room a visit when a lonely spinster misinterprets Dietrich's kindness while taking her statement about a mailbox break-in for lewd behavior. Harris and Yemana arrest a rabbi after receiving a tip that a casino is being run at his synagogue. Wojo arrests a suspect for attempting to rob a liquor store.

Dietrich and Harris are working on a case involving a cat burglar that causes Harris to shares familiar details to a past case. As a result, they soon discover that suspect‘s widow has taken up her late husband's proclivities. When Wojo and Yemana bring in a recent parolee on a gun possession charge, Wojo is surprised to hear that he did what he did because he wants to go back to prison, where life is structured and his time behind bars didn't prepare him for freedom. Meanwhile, Inspector Luger stops by to warns Barney the department is sending a chaplain to see him about his recent separation with Liz.

Wojo and Dietrich bring in a pair of suspects after they start a fight in a tattoo parlor. When Harris takes a statement from a neighborhood fence in hopes of finding a new loan shark who's starting to set up shop in the area, he's surprised at finding out that he's a minor with a large am of money and is driving a nice car. Meanwhile, when Yemana starts lashing out uncharacteristically, Barney and the guys soon feel bad that the previous day marked the 20th anniversary of when he joined the force and has been feeling unappreciated.

When Barney and the detectives arrive at the squad room and find it vandalized, Barney suspects the guilty party is Levitt. Meanwhile, Wojo and Dietrich assist a television executive when he is assaulted at a coffee shop.

When a rookie patrolman mistakenly shoots at Harris, thinking he was a burglar, his colleagues have to deal with the fallout. Meanwhile, Wojo arrests an out of work stockbroker who was on the streets, working as a beggar.

When Wojo brings in a shoplifting suspect, it turns out he's wanted by the FBI for being a war protesting radical from the 1960's. Harris and Dietrich bring in a burglar who attempts to get the detectives to make jokes about his weight.

Christmas is rapidly approaching and Barney is facing the harsh reality that he'll be spending the holiday alone. Meanwhile, the detectives bring in a claustrophobic suspect and competing toy executives who got involved in a fight.

Harris is tasked with helping a woman whose shoes were stolen off her feet while waiting for a bus. Wojo and Dietrich bring in an aging Indian who creates a disturbance by stating his final wish to die in Central Park.

When a series of articles are published, insinuating police corruption amongst the various precincts of the NYPD, Lt. Scanlon brings a lie detector to the squad room to root out the dirty detectives. Meanwhile, Barney suspects a fur dealer's robbery report isn't truthful.

Wojo brings in an unemployed former spy for disorderly conduct at an employment office, and soon holds them hostage. Dietrich and Harris arrest a business owner and mime following a scuffle.

A wife arrives at the twelfth precinct, looking for the detectives help in talking her husband out of becoming a soldier of fortune. Meanwhile, Wojo and his girlfriend Nancy take a big step and move in together, resulting in him starting to have second thoughts about it.

As Harris fills out a robbery report for a Hasidic Jew who was a target of a diamond theft, Barney starts to feel his are when Wojo brings in an aging Olympic hopeful who causes a scene practicing the javelin in Central Park and he makes a comment about his age and physique.

The detectives at the twelfth precinct try to track down a counterfeiter and find out why he's passing phony bills. Wojo and Levitt get called to a medical office after a man attacks a cosmetic surgeon after he discovers she had work done while he was on a business trip.

When the detectives hold an open house for the twelfth precinct, the only guests they have are a handful of vagrants. Wojo and Harris work on tracking down a serial arsonist at the nearby piers. When Barney announces to the guys that he's moving back home, he's in for a surprise when the hotel informs him he won't be getting his deposit back.

When a robbery suspect is brought in by Wojo, the detectives soon discover he is in the witness protection program after testifying against the mob. After he and Dietrich get shot at while on a call, Harris realizes his partner saved his life and starts acting strangely as a result.

When Dietrich and Levitt bring in a broker firm employee accused of embezzlement, the owner is reluctant to press charges and would rather handle the crime internally. Harris and Wojo have to take the statement from a young doctor brought in for causing a scene at the apartment of an Obeah woman he claims placed a voodoo curse on him.

The men of the twelfth precinct are working the graveyard shift and have to deal with several crises, one of which includes a bomb threat downstairs and an insomiac who caused a disturbance at a nearby drugstore.

Following the death of their cast mate Jack Soo, the men of the 12th Precinct come together to remember some of their favorite moments working with him.

After Lt. Scanlon receives an anonymous letter from someone claiming to be gay and working as an officer in the twelfth precinct, he tries to get Barney to help him identify the letter writer. Meanwhile, a department store shopper is arrested for destroying its MUSAK system because he believes it's delivering subliminal messages.

Harris fills out a complaint report from a woman who was robbed by a man claiming to be a magazine photographer in Central Park. Also, Levitt arrests a drug dealer and gets disheartened when Barney has to release him, and Wojo gets thrown for a loop when he brings in a suspect claiming to be Jesus Christ.

Dietrich and Harris return to the squad room, annoyed about getting called out on robbery call that turned out to be a false alarm. Wojo and Levitt soon get a call about a disturbance at a medical office when two brothers get into a fight over the fact that one brother refuses to donate his kidney to his ailing brother. Harris and Dietrich soon start bickering over the vacation schedule Barney recently posted on the wall.

The detectives work to reassure a monk who arrives in the squad room to fill out a missing persons report when his novitate vanishes not long after arriving in the city. It's Dietrich's turn to cross-dress for mugging detail and Barney tries to diplomatically explain to him that his services might be better suited elsewhere.

Following a traffic accident, Barney and the detectives are stunned to learn that the driver involved is an indentured servant to an Agricultural Secretary to the Burmese government. While Harris takes offense to the situation, he tries to find a way to aid the man in obtaining his freedom.

A bookstore owner is brought in by Harris and Levitt for causing a scene, protesting outside a strip club that opens near his business. Meanwhile as the detectives deal with the heating being turned off to conserve energy, Wojo arrests a man who was wading in a fountain, claiming he will spontaneously combus at a moment's notice.

When Wojo‘s recently purchased parrot dies at his desk, he unsuccessful tries to convince the pet store owner to change his return policy. When a depressed suicide hotline worker attempts to take his life, a caller who he helps attempts to help him. Meanwhile, Harris is desperate to get Dietrich to sign a release form so his book can get published.

After Wojo brings in a suspect following a botched robbery, he eventually finds out that he is a criminal whose speciality is armed robbery, but becomes almost unrecognizable following a lobotomy. Harris and Dietrich assist an Amish man who is a victim of a mugging.

As the detectives come to terms with Sgt. Yemana's desk being moved to city storage, Harris and Dietrich helps a woman who comes in to report crimes she watches on soap operas. A judge is brought in for assaulting a lawyer in his courtroom.

Barney and Dietrich go on a call to a research facility where potentially dangerous DNA cultures are stolen. Harris is tasked with filling out a report from a woman who insists the man currently living with her isn't her husband, but actually is a clone.

Barney has a woman detective go undercover to investigate a dentist accuses of inappropriate touching of women patients while sedated. Harris and Wojo bring in a suspect accused of disturbing the peace at a nearby diner.

Wojo and Levitt inves when a burglar is brought in, complaining about a group of apartment building tenants participate in vigilante justice. Dietrich deals with a census taker accused of breaking and entering when a family refuses to let him do his job. Meanwhile, the detectives offer Barney some unhelpful advice when he shares some information that he and his family might be losing their apartment.

Vagrant Ray Brewer comes to the twelfth precinct, looking for help when some fellow homeless men end up missing under what he considers auspicious circumstances, resulting in Harris going undercover to find out what's happening. Meanwhile, Wojo and Dietrich start competing over who'll help fill out the arrest report of a woman looking to conceive a child with and then raise it alone.

Upon learning from Mr. Brewer that Harris disappeared on his stakeout, Barney and the detectives become concerned. However, it doesn't take that Harris calls from a roadside convenience store in Maryland, where he was able to crack the case. Barney is then stunned when Luger informs him that he's been demoted due to his refusal to retire and has been assigned to the twelfth precinct.

Marty's friend Darryl Driscoll seeks the help of the detectives in reclaiming the custody of his son from his ex-wife before resorting to kidnapping. Meanwhile, a man claiming to be from the future is brought in and soon gives Harris some financial advice.

Harris and Dietrich bring in a suspect after he was caught robbing the police vault, looking to reclaim his television that was previously stolen. After Wojo and Luger bring in a suspect who was arrested using an antique gun during a holdup, Wojo shares his concern to Barney that his colleague might be going to extremes to end his life after he was demoted. A collector finds himself in trouble when his stash of antique guns that were previously stolen are being used in a rash of attempted robberies.

Barney and Harris butt heads when Harris refuses wear his uniform in the Police Department's annual day in uniform day. Wojo and Harris bring in a letter carrier who got caught not delivering mail he deems unimportant. Dietrich sets out to solve a seven year old cold case.

On the eve of an anti-nuclear rally, Dietrich and Levitt have a disagreement over the safety and effectiveness of nuclear power. Harris learns from Barney that he is unable to afford his condo. Dietrich and Wojo bring in a man who won a state lottery who caused a riot by giving away his winnings by throwing the money out of his apartment window.

Following Dietrich's arrest at the anti-nuclear rally, Barney tasks Harris to book him while the others go downstairs to assist the officers in dispersing the riot. His arrest also results in a visit from Internal Affairs. Another protester, who happens to be a nuclear engineer, is booked for splashing his fellow protesters with atomic water.

An architect is arrested for defacing a nearby building because it was built differently than how he designed it, and the detectives soon learn he placed bombs in it as a form of protest. As Harris tries to leave for his vacation in Wyoming, the detectives get held hostage by a pair of gunmen who are looking for a friend who was arrested earlier in the day.

A psychologist is brought in to help Wojo remember through hypnosis the name of a criminal so he can close a case. An inventor is arrested after he is accused of stealing the plans for a battery he invented for an electronics company.

When a thick fog envelopes the city, it causes a burglar to accidentally break into a Christian Science Reading Room by mistake. Barney and the men of the twelfth precinct wait to hear if he gets his promotion to deputy inspector. Levitt brings in a street musician for disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

Due to man power shortages, the twelfth precinct is restructured and made a homicide squad. Some of the cases that they now have to deal with is a man who admits to killing his barber and a woman who tries to stop a hitman from taking her husband's life.

When Barney sends Dietrich to try and stop the hitman, Harris strikes out in wooing the precinct's crime scene photographer. Barney then sets out to reverse the speciality squad order when he learns that it results in the death of an old friend.

Wojo and Dietrich respond to a drunk and disorderly call that involves a man who served as a delegate to the 1976 Democratic National Convention. Harris tries to figure out the motive of a series of holdups in a nearby neighborhood. Barney has his hands full after discovering an older officer assigned to the twelfth precinct isn't who he claims to be.

When Detective Sgt. Eric Dorsey gets assigned to the twelfth precinct, he is less than thrilled about it because he's convinced his colleagues are corrupt. As a result, Barney has his work cut out to prove his new detective wrong. Harris and Dietrich bring in a suspect for disorderly conduct at a stop smoking clinic.

Wojo takes a personal interest when he brings in a suspect accused of robbing a liquor store who says his time serving in Vietnam is the cause for his actions. Harris, Dorsey, and Barney try to handle a domestic disturbance when a married couple has to adjust to their apartment building becoming clothing optional.

When Dietrich announces his intention to live a celibate life, Harris and Dorsey go on a call at a nearby hotel used in a prostitution ring. Dorsey then attempts to take one of the girls under his wings due to her age while Harris decides to take some stock advice from one of the other ladies.

After shooting a robbery suspect while on a call with Levitt, Dietrich feels guilty about what he did and ultimately decides to resign from the force. Harris and Wojo responds to an assault call at a local theater when a playwright attacks an incompetent actor. A long way from home, a man turns himself in for robbing a group of nuns in Arizona. 

Barney and the detectives face an unusual situation when a burglar is brought in by Harris and Dietrich who happily announces he was celebrating his 50th year as a criminal. They then try to figure out who is acting as a field associate to Internal Affairs.

Harris is thrilled when he gets assigned to produce a "skin flick" in an attempt to infiltrate the theaters catering to aficionados of the genre, and soon gets a warning to not go overboard with it from Barney. Dietrich brings in a radio journalist for attacking a television journalist at an ERA rally. Scanlon arrives in the Squad room to investigate a harassment claim made by a suspect against Wojo.

Barney and the detectives attempt to help an elderly blind man who is a mugging victim. Harris is on the receiving end of the ire of the department heads for going over the budget of the skin flick he was tasked to produce. Dietrich and Wojo bring in a suspect accused of stealing from a nearby charity. Inspector Luger stops by for a visit and complains about his new job downtown.

Wojo brings in a suspect claiming to be a psychic, who attacks a man before he a commits a mugging. Dietrich and Levitt arrest linguistic professor for vandalizing a billboard. Harris is spending his time adding commodity futures to his portfolio.

Due to manpower shortages, Harris is less than thrilled about having to come in while sick, or when Barney sends him out with Wojo on a burglary call that results in Wojo jumping into the Hudson River to make his collar. A deaf woman is arrested for solicitation at a bus stop.

A Gypsy arrested for vandalizing a nearby novelty shop has a compelling reason for his actions, dating back to World War Two. A librarian goes to extreme measures to make sure the patrons of the branch she works at follows the quiet rules.

Things get tease between Barney and Wojo when Wojo asks if it would be alright to date Barney's daughter, Rachel. Harris is facing legal action from Arnold Ripner for his protrayal in "Blood on the Badge." The owner of a sporting goods store is arrested along with the robber who burglarized his business for taking the law into his own hands.

Barney gets charged with contempt of court when he refuses to name his confidential informant, surprising the guys in the squad room. Harris takes a statement from Ray, who is looking for help in finding the thief who is robbing the local Salvation Army branch. A man is brought in after causing a disturbance at a neighborhood restaurant after accusing the staff for refusing service based upon his appearance.

As Barney adjusts to his time in jail, Harris happily supervises his colleagues in the squad room. Wojo continues to work with Lt. Holly and Ray to find out who is robbing the Salvation Army.

An owner of a neighborhood Doll shop looks to file a report for an antique doll kidnapped for ransom. A naive man is arrested by Dietrich and Levitt for disorderly conduct at a Scientific organization after being swindled into buying a seat on the space shuttle. Inspector Luger stops by the squad room to tell Barney he's naming his friend as a beneficiary in his will.

When Sgt. Fish stops by for a surprise visit, a woman threatens the men in the squad room with a homemade bomb, looking to lodge a complaint against a nearby hospital for making her husband work in an unsafe environment. Levitt and Dietrich bring in a couple long distance chess players, looking to file mutual assault charges at a nearby Post Office over disputed chess moves. Meanwhile, Harris receives word on the verdict of Ripner's defamation lawsuit and is less than thrilled about the outcome.

When Hasidic Jew Yacov Berger stops by to lodge a complaint with Barney about the lack of patrolling in their community following a series of attacks, a riot ultimately breaks out thanks to Inspector Luger. A pair of urban survivalists are arrested for trespassing after they were found living underground in the city steam tunnels.

The detectives at the twelfth precinct are less than thrilled when a shipment of bulletproof vests are distributed amongst the department and are told in no uncertain terms that they have to be worm while on duty. Inspector Luger arrives in the squad room, looking to interview everyone in case there's need for their obituaries. An eccentric inventor is arrested after he was caught brandishing a gun at a nearby corporation's headquarters.

As the detectives in the twelfth precinct deal with water rationing due to citywide water shortages, a man claiming to be a rainmaker hired by the city is arrested. When Barney announces that there's an opening in the Vice Squad in the midtown precinct, Harris, Dietrich, and Wojo are all interested in the job.

Harris is less than thrilled at discovering his libel appeal didn't go in his favor and has to liquidate his assets to pay Arnold Ripner. Wojo and Levitt arrest a man at a department store for creating a disturbance. Dietrich brings in a newsstand owner for trespass after an altercation with a construction crew and tries to find a way to help him out instead of trying to book him.

As the detectives assist a beauty queen who is the victim of a purse snatching, a moviegoer is arrested and brought in for causing a scene at a theater showing a snuff film. When Wojo gets hit with a paternity suit, he is less than thrilled at the lengths he has to go through to prove he isn't the father.

Harris is letting a new book contract deal get in the way of his work in tracking down the robber who help up a Mug Shop owner. Wojo and Dietrich try to help the owners of a neighborhood delicatessen who lost the winning ticket of an unemployed customer, out for revenge. Inspector Luger drops by for a visit with Barney and asks for his help in selecting a mail order bride.

Dietrich, Wojo, and Harris are sent on a call for an officer in distress, that ultimately turns out to be a sanitation department officer getting too overzealous while on patrol. When Levitt volunteers to go on a call to get a group of kids to disperse from a construction site, he gets injured for his efforts. A car thief has a crisis of conscience after a run-in with Wojo and confesses to stealing a DeSoto nearly 25 years ago.

Harris and Dietrich get assigned to a domestic disturbance when a wife attacks her husband after he forces her to wear a pair of designer jeans. After Wojo brings in a suspect for destruction of property, Barney finds himself having to call the police chaplain to perform an exorcism on the man.

Dietrich volunteers for a stress analysis study on police officers, and as a result causes Barney and his colleagues concern when the harness he's wearing stops working when he goes on an assault case. Harris and Wojo go on a call to NYU, where a Peace Corps recruiter causes a disturbance at job fair. Meanwhile, Inspector Luger stops by to express his displeasure in the letter Barney wrote for him to send his mail order bride.

Dietrich finds himself having to deal with the FBI when they bring in a robbery suspect is brought in for attempting to steal computer chips for gaming systems bound for Poland. Wojo brings in an Army Specialist for solicitation, resulting in her commanding officer being called in to handle the situation.

It's Christmas and the detectives room soon gets overrun with vagrants with nowhere to go. Wojo and Dietrich bring in a homeless suspect and a merchant who caught him sleeping in his business and ultimately assaulted him with a cattle prod. Harris brings in a suspect who caused a disturbance when he was fired at his office Christmas party.

A CPR instructor is brought in after creating a disturbance while working at a nearby department store. Barney tries to get around some technicalities of a tontine for a pair of aging cousins. Levitt brings in a trio of witnesses to make statements about what they saw when he saved a boy on the construction site the previous month.

As Barney and the detectives of the twelfth precinct work in uniform while Levitt and the officers take their sergant's exams, Inspector Luger volunteers to be in charge for the day and ultimately gets in trouble for roughing up a suspect, and later Barney.

Harris and Barney are on the hunt for a mugger who has been targeting var street performers. Harris then goes on a call to a nearby hotel where an out of town politician hosts a rowdy stag party for several police officers, hoping to lure them to come and work for him in New Mexico. Wojo and Dietrich bring in a trio of inmates who were secretly released from jail to alleviate overcrowding conditions from Riker's Island. Levitt considers resigning from the force after learning that his nomination for a medal of valor is turned down.

Harris and Dietrich are forced to provide protection to an uncooperative witness to a murder that occurred in Chinatown. A business owner is arrested after breaking into his restaurant following a dispute with the IRS. A mugging victim catches the eye of Lt. Scanlon when he pays the squad room an unscheduled visit.

A week into their assignment of protecting their uncooperative witness, Harris and Dietrich start driving one another crazy. Miss Fitzjames returns to the twelfth precinct to file a harassment complaint against Lt. Scanlon.

Harris and Wojo bring in a suspect who created a disturbance in Washington Square Park while on a hunger strike. Dietrich befriends and attempts to advocate for an elderly psychiatric patient who may only a victim of a language barrier of those around her. Barney considers taking his name out of contention for Deputy Inspector.

As Harris takes the statement from a mugging victim who tried assisting an elderly woman on the street, a genius is brought in on suspicion of petty robbery. Inspector Luger and the guys in the squad room are in for a surprise when Luger's mail-order bride arrives, looking for her fiancé.

A man is arrested at a newspaper office for assault and battery when he attacks a reporter for writing and publishing his obituary before he actually dies. A thief is brought in for stealing surplus chicken parts from a government warehouse. The detectives surprise birthday party for Barney doesn't go as planned.

A young boy's parents are arrested after assaulting the headmaster of a prestigious daycare for turn down admission of their son. An Internal Affairs investigation is called on Wojo after he is involved in a shooting earlier in the day. Also booked is a man arrested for mugging a victim after being mugged himself.

Harris and Wojo bring in an actor, arrested for assaulting his agent. A good samaritan is arrested after a choking victim he helped presses charges for assault. Dietrich spends the afternoon with an old flame.

Dietrich assists a mugging victim who eventually admits to Barney she carried a torch for him from when he saved her from a mugging 25 years ago when he was a beat cop. Harris and Wojo bring in a stockbroker who caught selling drugs to the detectives. Meanwhile, attorney Arnold Ripner runs afoul of Harris when he learns Harris is in negotiations for a new book deal and tries to hit him with a new libel suit.

Dietrich and Wojo arrest a Native American when he attempts to retrieve the ancestral remains of deceased tribal members at a nearby museum. A scoutmaster assists the detectives in catching a mugger in the park. The twelfth precinct has to deal with another plumbing problem in the building and a language barrier between the officers and plumber tasked to fix the problem.

As Harris assists a robbery victim fill out his report, Barney and the detectives learn that the antique gun Wojo found originally belonged to former President Theodore Roosevelt when he was the New York Police Commissioner. As a result, the building gets designated as a historical landmark and will be sold to private investors.

When Barney and the detectives learn that the building has been sold and they'll have 30 days to vacate the building, Dietrich brings in a a pair of elderly women who tried robbing a neighborhood business. Luger tries to skip out on his mail-order bride. Later, the detectives and officers downstairs start airing their grievances about their upcoming reassignments.

On their last day at the twelfth precinct, Harris investigates a series of thefts involving manhole covers, while Wojo brings in a suspect accused of theft of his work at research facility he works at. When Barney receives everyone's transfer orders, they're stunned at learning they'll be split up at various precincts. Barney then is in for a surprise of his own regarding his promotion. Various friends and past suspects pay the detectives their last respects.
