Bobby's back on the job, but things are a little uneasy between him and Andy until they work a bar shooting where a terminally ill prison guard holds the key to solving the case. Diane uses a suspect's sexism against him on a string of rape-assault cases. James and Gina get married.

Greg swings into action when Abby's lover is murdered during a break-in, tying the case to a disturbed figure from Abby's past. The rest of the squad tries to unravel the case of a young woman who was shot and then burnt beyond recognition.

As Andy ponders the lyrics to "Pop Goes the Weasel", he and Bobby must help a murder witness who has a perfect head for details but is otherwise out of her mind. After she gets kidnapped, Andy's hypocrisy gets a workout when he castigates ADA Leo Cohen for making a deal to get her back safely, leading Jill to give Leo some kind words. Greg and James find out an Indian man's brother is behind a series of cab robberies.

Sipowicz struggles to suppress his rage while investigating the rape of a little girl, coming face to face with a suspect who sends him way over the edge. Meanwhile, Simone is utterly distressed by the brutal depths to which a drug-addicted mother will go to support her habit, then disgusted with himself for solving the murder of a Korean grocer. And that murder, in a predominantly black neighborhood leaves his grieving son hostile toward everyone, including the detectives at the 15th Precinct.

Vince Gotelli returns to the 15th's lives when a sleazy bus driver comes under suspicion in the deaths of his wife and sick young son. Lt. Fancy gets a visit from an old friend, a musician dying of cancer who has information about a 20-year-old murder, and later reflects to the friend about his life and where it's going. A record company executive who nobody in his life could stand is beaten to death, but the investigation leads to an unlikely suspect.

Two young women who secretly worked as exotic dancers are raped and murdered, leaving Andy and Bobby to wade through a sea of scum before closing the case. An unreliable acquaintance of James' says that a man's estranged wife and her new lover are in danger from the cuckolded husband, leading the cops on a wild goose chase. Diane is angry when a snooty woman blames an accidental theft on her immigrant housekeeper, and closes the case before letting the woman know she will get an INS visit if she mistreats the worker again.

In a two parter, a young boy named Brian is reported missing by his controlling father and distraught mother. The father becomes the prime suspect but all of the evidence points to a mute, homeless man named Israel. Andy is unable to hold his temper in check and after Brian is found dead, asks Fancy to remove him from the case.

Andy later is left reading a Bible for answers after Israel commits suicide. Diane takes over because she's been sidelined as Greg's knowledge of Orthodox Judaism becomes useful while he and James track down the scumbags who robbed and murdered a Hasidic woman. While Diane tries to get the wife to tell what she knows about her husband, Bobby gets through the husband's defenses and he begins to start revealing terrible information. An insurance scam involving homeless amputees provides a ruse that lets the cops solve Brian's murder.

Andy's old friend Wally asks him for help because Wally's daughter Carla is in a weird relationship with a woman named Margo. Andy learns Carla is a piece of garbage and her boyfriend is worse, and comes after them when Margo is beaten to death, though it's Bobby who gets to the point fastest. Greg and James bust a junkie who says he's been dumping dead bodies and associated parts around the city for a corrupt cemetery owner. Bobby learns the true background story of PAA Naomi.

Diane's pregnancy is revealed to Bobby, but it leads to an ugly scene when she insists on a dangerous assignment that turns into a shootout and he yells at her about it in front of everyone. James' anger overtakes both his reserve and his back when he finds out a city official threw an OD victim into a dumpster. Noami tells Bobby she's been turned into the INS for being an illegal from Australia, but she will fight to stay in the U.S.

In the 100th episode of the series, an attractive woman is found dead in a valuable wooden box. Andy and Bobby link the crime to her stupid, worthless brother, but it takes a few bottles of Coca-Cola to get the whole story. Diane's pregnancy weighs on her mind when an unloving mother's louse of a boyfriend accidentally kills her son. Greg, James and Jill catch a murder at a car-repair shop that turns complicated when the family of the victim says they and God forgive the killer.

Greg's head is spinning when a man claims his identical twin is violent and threatening both himself and his girlfriend, and he tries to figure out if there is even another twin out there. A junkie is committing robberies at ATMs, and Jill's bonding with his mother may be the only way to bring him to justice. Andy gets medical news that he does not share with anyone, including Sylvia, and an attractive new PAA named Dolores arrives.

A teenager named Weaver is thrown to his death, but Fancy is more focused on his father's racial slurs than solving the case, eventually targeting Andy for doing his investigation objectively. After Bobby gets devastating personal news from Diane (lost of her child) and has to listen to them all day, he finally screams at them both to shut up. An African immigrant's wife is found hacked to death, and Jill figures out the buttons to push to find him and get him to confess.

A nurse is strangled and stabbed to death. Suspicion initially falls on a mental patient at the hospital she worked at, but Andy and Bobby later learn she was having an affair with a married uniform cop named Tommy Richardson, and try to prove he did the crime. Jill uses a trick involving a soda can to get a mute suspect to confess. Andy's doctor comes to the precinct to get him to face his bad health news, but Andy loses his temper and throws the guy out of the 15th.

Andy and Bobby continue to investigate Tommy Richardson, but none of their ideas work and the most Andy can do is warn Tommy to transfer out of the 15th. Two thugs beat up a student filmmaker and steal his camera, but Diane and Jill are worried the filmmaker will seek his own revenge. Greg gets an emergency call from Abby only to learn she's not in labor. And Andy is confronted & comforted by Sylvia after she gets the word about his health: he has prostate cancer.

A shooting at a health clinic turns out to be a love triangle involving a lonely wife, her angry boyfriend, and a white-knight guard whose desire to protect her leads to a shootout at the 15th. The rape of one woman and another's murder lead Andy and Bobby to a feud involving a crippled drug dealer who knows Andy from Andy's uglier days on the force. Andy tells Bobby about his health condition. Fancy is happy to do some police work when he takes a statement on the shooting case.

Tommy Richardson's wife, Laurie, stops by the station to pick up his time records after he transfers to another precinct, where she expresses to Simone and Russell about Tommy's behavior after she caught him in a phone conversation with another woman. Meanwhile, Medavoy and Kirkendall look into the death of a man who was shot and found in the bathtub of his former girlfriend. Also, Sylvia accompanies Sipowicz to the hospital for his latest CAT scan test which goes wrong and they decide to ignore Dr. Talbot's advice and go with the opinion of Dr. Mondzac.

James and Greg reveal that Gina and Abby have given birth. Andy undergoes his prostate surgery and suffers through the agonizing first steps in his recovery process. The rest of the squad catches the murder of an Army veteran who was in town with five buddies from his service days. The more the cops talk to them, the more they think they have uncovered a larger and more dangerous problem.

Andy is still in pain when he returns to work on a case involving the missing daughter of a crack addict. Andy clashes with ADA Cohen over an immunity plan and later has to use creativity when the girl is found dead. Sylvia shows up to help Andy as well as salvage a criminal case. Bobby learns an elderly tenant at his building is missing and speculation falls on Henry Coffield. Bobby does not think Henry's guilty and follows up on another lead when the elderly tenant's fate is revealed.

When the detectives are called to the scene of a murdered prostitute who is covered excessively with bodily fluid, a repulsed Medavoy employs a clever strategy to get the suspect's confession. Meanwhile, Simone and Sipowicz take pity on a misguided young man accused of killing a sleazy car dealer; and Sipowicz gets still more alarming news about his health.

Simone and Sipowicz help a frenzied A.D.A. Cohen, who suspects that a defense attorney may have been involved in the execution-style murder of a witness and her child. Medavoy and Martinez bust a slick con man who manufactures fake sports memorabilia; and both Simone and Sipowicz reach significant milestones in their romantic relationships.

Simone, Sipowicz, and Fancy are annoyed by the presence of retired cop Mike Roberts, who has been hired by the murder victim's father to keep a lid on his son's alleged homosexuality. Meanwhile, Costas lends a big assist to Russell and Kirkendall in their investigation of a teenage girl's rape, and Bobby Simone helps scare away the lowlife boyfriend of his dentist's daughter but is clearly not feeling well.

The detectives of the 15th Precinct investigate a double homicide involving one of their own, an alcoholic cop who seems to have done the right thing, but can't remember key details about the incident. The situation becomes more precarious as the cop's lieutenant tries to use the incident to get him kicked off the force. Looming over all these events is the health crisis afflicting Bobby, who collapses at the crime scene and is hospitalized.

Sipowicz, Medavoy and Martinez try to unravel the confusing information given by the suspect in the murder of a Pakistani man, who was found semi-naked in a park. Meanwhile, Simone's deteriorating health continues to worry Russell and leads Sipowicz into conflict with everyone, including Costas.

Lieutenant Fancy urgently reaches out to the entire New York City police department for assistance in resolving Simone's critical medical condition, while his co-workers at the 15th Precinct are frustrated by their inability to help their ailing comrade. Meanwhile, Sipowicz, Medavoy and Martinez investigate two brothers in the brutal murder of their 72-year-old mother.

Sipowicz is led to a surprising reconnection with his ex-wife as Simone's medical crisis reaches the worst possible conclusion.

Danny Sorenson transfers from Narcotics to the 15th Precinct's detective squad. While he and Sipowicz lead a double homicide investigation, Sorenson struggles to overcome the squad's suspicion of his techniques and intentions. Meanwhile, Costas has misgivings about the accuracy of the past conviction of a teenager and asks a reluctant Sipowicz for help, but Andy and the original detective on the case, Sgt. Dornan, don't click.

Sipowicz mentors Sorenson when the latter goes overboard with a suspect in the killing of two elderly gift shop owners; Russell and Kirkendall investigate the murder of a strip club patron and are shocked to learn that PAA Dolores Mayo is working there as a dancer; and Andy gets some info from Sgt. Dornan but it's too late to help Sylvia or an innocent man in jail.

An off duty white officer mistakenly shoots a black undercover officer when seeing suspects in pursuit of a crime. The white officer, Syzmanski, is the same officer who pulled over Lt. Fancy for driving in an all White neighborhood, leading to a violent explosion of racial tension between Sipowicz and Fancy. Diane and Jill help out an increasingly troubled Dolores Mayo. Andy consoles a distraught Sylvia.

Russell and Sorenson scramble to close a stabbing case so that Kirkendall's son, a witness to the incident, doesn't have to testify; Greg and James slog through a case where a homeless man was beaten to death; PAA John tries to help out an increasingly out of control Dolores Mayo; Andy, Sylvia and Lt. Dornan join forces to avenge a man who was conned into confessing to a crime, tortured in jail and murdered there; and Russell is tempted to drink.

Sipowicz and Sorenson are beyond frustrated when the FBI and Internal Affairs show up and meddle with their investigation of a family of dirty cops who may have been involved in a robbery-homicide. Meanwhile, Medavoy chafes at being the butt of one of Sipowicz's jokes; Sylvia reaches the end of her rope on the Suarez case; and Diane, still consumed with grief, reaches out for help.

An apartment building gigolo is the prime suspect when one of the elderly ladies he "visited" is murdered; and Sorenson turns to Sipowicz for advice when a friend appears to be on the brink of a breakdown.

"Upstairs" John fears that Dolores' downward spiral might have ended tragically, and when Sipowicz and Sorenson investigate her disappearance, they face off with a high profile attorney from Sipowicz's past. Elsewhere, a dysfunctional family leads Greg and James into a bizarre murder case, and Jill and Diane get an even weirder case that could be a murder case, a kidnapping case, or no case at all.

A girl thought to be dead really isn't, in spite of her mother's positive (and eager) identification. Meanwhile, a member of the 15th Precinct takes a bullet as a stakeout suddenly turns violent; Andy and Lt. Fancy try to help a bitter Det. Dornan even as his attitude sucks; and Henry Coffield surprisingly provides a smile to Diane's day.

A young girl is found dead in the basement of her apartment and Sipowicz and Sorenson rely on their instincts to narrow the list of suspects; an elderly gentleman suspects that his younger girlfriend was forced to steal money from him; and Sorenson's sister and Dolores Mayo's father visit the precinct, hoping to spend time with their loved ones.

Sorenson's acquaintance with a drug dealer proves helpful when a cop is accused of prematurely shooting a suspect; Russell and Kirkendall fear that a bitter neighborly dispute could get out of hand; and Sipowicz has a recurring dream about his past which helps him come to terms with his present.

Sorenson and his girlfriend, Nadine, experience an emotional crisis; and Sipowicz gives a convincing performance as a heavy in order to secure a murder confession.

Sipowicz and Sorenson investigate the death of a woman whose spoiled, drug-using son is a prime suspect; and retired cop Mike Roberts needs help from his former colleagues when it appears that he may be responsible for a crime at his current job.

A troubled former cop meets an unfortunate end, which causes the detectives to reflect back on his cries for help. Sipowicz feels especially guilty about the situation until information from John Irvin leads him to the source of the tragedy.

Sipowicz and Sorenson must find more evidence in the Cullinan murder case; Sipowicz and Fancy try to help a fellow cop with a drinking problem; ADA Leo Cohen and Jill's relationship comes to an end as he leaves the case.

Sipowicz is overly eager to testify in the Cullinan murder trial, but Costas worries that Sipowicz is no match for defense attorney James Sinclair. Much to Sipowicz's chagrin, Costas thinks Sorenson will make a stronger witness and Andy increasingly loses his mind over having to deal with Sinclair's psychological button-pushing. In the aftermath of a particularly horrific crime — even by NYPD standards — seven young men are found naked and murdered in one room, and a profiler is sent to the precinct to help with the investigation. Sipowicz struggles not to let his contempt for the profiler get in the way of their job and has to deal with an incompetent younger cop, but the explanation for the mass murder turns out to be pathetic and pedestrian. Meanwhile, Don makes a stupid mistake that could threaten Jill's career, and Lt. Fancy convinces the idiot that he either plays ball and stops threatening Jill's career or he spends 20 years in prison no matter what he says, and Greg and James investigate a warehouse theft that ended with a kid dead from a broken neck and leads to his dumber-than-Don brother.

Sipowicz and Sorenson investigate the murder of a man who was shot in front of his wife and whose brother appears to be the hero for trying to catch the shooter. Diane meets with Det. Denby, who is running the drug case that Don is involved in, and finds out he's as disgusting as Don is. James learns that he passed the Sergeant's exam and shares the news with a supportive but saddened Greg.

Sipowicz and Sorenson trace the path of a young man's gun which was used in a homicide and now threatens to destroy his own family, and Andy once again tries very hard to show he's no longer racist in the face of disapproval from the suspect's mom; Kirkendall faces a showdown with Don that ends with theft and Don being killed and burned beyond recognition; and the fraternity of the 15th Precinct promises to remain intact even as Detective James Martinez bids farewell.

But Sipowicz is a bit skeptical of Jones, the new guy, and doesn't try to hide it. Danny treats Mary Franco dismissively and seems more interested in Diane. Diane and Jill investigate a girl who died as a drug mule and get a suspect to incriminate himself.

A young boy is suspected of killing his mother's abusive boyfriend; and Fancy tries to neutralize the ongoing tension from Lt. Abner but comes to realize that Abner is seriously depressed and wonders whether he should call an NYPD intervention unit. Meanwhile, Sipowicz is asked by an old friend named Eddie Gibson to take out Gibson's niece, triggering worries for Andy (who hasn't dated since Sylvia's death) and resentment from his ex-wife Katie.

Sipowicz and Sorenson reopen an unsolved case involving a missing little girl when a small body is discovered buried in a wall. Andy offers emotional support when a troubled Sorenson is plagued by persistent nightmares but it's Diane whom he ultimately confides in. Meanwhile, Medavoy and Jones resort to a bit of theatrics when their slam-dunk shooting case is hampered by a pet owner who refuses to let them retrieve a bullet from her dog's nose that's needed as evidence.

Lieutenant Fancy tries to rebuild his relationship with Lt. Abner, but is left devastated when he runs out of time, while a concerned Detective Jones offers his support. Meanwhile, Sipowicz and Sorenson investigate the murder of a club owner who had quite a way with the ladies, and Andy helps out a married man who snapped when the lothario had an affair with his wife. And Kirkendall and Russell help a fragile young woman recount her horrific gang rape and deal with her racist, unsympathetic parents.

Meanwhile, Medavoy is visited by an old friend who fears trouble with the Chinese mafia. And Danny seems to rebound from his personal problems and restarts his relationship with Mary Franco.

A dismembered body is found in a barrel in the basement of a brownstone. The detectives' trail leads them to a notorious mobster who has a long list of enemies, but they soon learn the mobster is connected to a different murder case. Andy has to deal with a hostile ME whose anger at Andy is not personal. And Detective Jones helps an attractive radio reporter break a big story and receives clear signals in return.

A panic-stricken young woman tries to convince Kirkendall and Russell that her twin sister has become the victim of foul play; and Sipowicz and Sorenson investigate an immigrant's possible involvement in the murder of his wealthy but unpopular wife.

The detectives welcome the assistance of a pair of British detectives in the stakeout of a sadistic rapist-murderer; and Detective Jones gets up close and personal with the grateful reporter he helped on a previous homicide.

Once again, Diane Russell reluctantly finds herself in a dangerous standoff with undercover narcotics agent Harry Denby, who may know the truth about Kirkendall's ex-husband. Meanwhile, Sipowicz and Sorenson investigate a husband's claims about his wife and the ex-con they're housing, and Greg and Jones uncover a home-repair scam.

Sipowicz endures every parent's nightmare as young Theo's visit to the doctor reveals a problem; the subject of Kirkendall's ex-husband strains Jill and Diane's partnership, but they work together to solve the brutal murder of a rapist. Danny and Andy consider some horrible options related to Don's return and Jill's actions regarding her ex. A father and son don't have wonderful motives for taking revenge on someone who wronged a family member.

Lt. Fancy tells Diane that the NYPD is ready to close in on Jill for her relationship with Don. Diane lets an angry Jill know the truth, and Jill tells Diane why Don has leverage over her. The squad comes together to deal with the Don situation once and for all. Andy stays by Theo's side as his son goes through tests to see whether or not he has cancer. An interdepartmental shakeup leads to permanent change.

Andy's mood turns dramatically when he gets the news on Theo, but he keeps his game face on to help Greg and Baldwin solve a case involving a series of cab-driver homicides connected to a gun broker. Diane spars against with Harry to ward off an IAB avalanche over the Don Kirkendall case, and while Harry's information is useless (as is the "help" from the late Bobby Simone's sleazebag friend Ray DiSalvo), Don's enemies list ironically puts the detectives and Harry all in the clear.

When a female cop is shot while responding to a call, her husband, a captain on the force, blames her partner for leaving her side and wants to seek his own revenge. And, a new assistant district attorney arrives to handle the case. Andy has another date with Cynthia Gibson that both seem to enjoy.

The apparent murder-suicide from the week earlier leads once again to rogue ex-cop Harry Denby. This time the encounter prompts what could be the final showdown between Denby and Diane Russell. Meanwhile Danny Sorenson's path of anger and destruction continues, completely blowing a major double-murder case and forcing Lieutenant Fancy to take action to sit him down. Soon afterwards, the rest of the force and Andy both drive home how badly Danny has screwed up here.

A trio of Goth teens are involved in a stabbing during a night of wild partying, and Sipowicz tries to save the case that Sorenson nearly blew. Meanwhile Russell tries out a new partner named Connie McDowell, who has to overcome a wave of hostility when she arrives to fill in for the troubled Danny.

Sipowicz and a fully reinstated Sorenson work to help an officer's relative whose temper gets him in trouble, while the rest of the detectives investigate the stabbing attack on Captain Bass' wife. Meanwhile, romance blossoms, as Sipowicz spends more time with Cynthia and Baldwin Jones has a date.

Meanwhile, a teenage immigrant girl with a troubled past is murdered and the suspects are many.

Sipowicz reaches out to an alcoholic ex-cop whose daughter has been murdered, and Lt. Rodriguez steps in when detectives from another squad try to take over the investigation. Meanwhile, in his personal life, Sipowicz stumbles in his new relationship with Cynthia and turns to his ex-wife, Katie, for comfort.

When a cop gets shot, the detectives launch a major investigation and are surprised to learn that, with his active social life, the officer's shooting may not have been as random as he claims. Meanwhile, Medavoy's good intentions to help a store owner backfire, and Sipowicz takes offense when Lieutenant Rodriguez steps in and uses past connections to get a confession out of a suspect.

When a victim's claims of being kidnapped don't add up, the victim accuses Sipowicz and Sorenson of homophobia. Jones also suffers accusations from parents of teens who killed a Chinese delivery man but accuse him of being a traitor to his race. Meanwhile, Diane's friendship with the doctor who treated her late husband becomes public knowledge at the precinct; and Andy tries to make major changes in his life in an effort to create stability for Theo.

When A.D.A. Valerie Haywood needs help tracking down a wayward witness, she turns to McDowell and Russell. Miraculously they find the reluctant witness and even "host" her overnight until her court appearance. The three women forge an unusual bond in the course of the evening, which makes it all the more painful when the witness disappears once again before testifying. The disastrous turn of events prompts a deeply remorseful Valerie to seek the comfort of Baldwin Jones. Andy and Danny try to get a nasty suspect to confess to a murder so an eyewitness won't be put through hell in the aftermath.

Still grieving the loss of her husband and the failed relationship with Danny Sorenson, Diane Russell decides to take the drastic step of leaving her job in order to get her life back together. But the manner in which she leaves has her co-workers, particularly Sorenson, feeling hurt and confused. Meanwhile Medavoy and Sipowicz go undercover to nab a pair of robbers who've been preying on the elderly, while Andy wonders openly whether his plans to marry his ex-wife are a good idea. Danny meets a stripper while working a double-murder case and seems to be falling for her.

Much to the displeasure of his partner Andy Sipowicz, Sorenson seems to be losing himself in his relationship with Kristen, the stripper. He even puts himself in jeopardy when his attempt to protect her from a rude patron leads to a fight. Meanwhile, Katie and Andy make a crucial decision about their remarriage, while Baldwin holds his temper in check on a case where a woman was savagely beaten and her husband murdered for no reason.

When a possible lead in Danny's disappearance emerges, the trail leads right to the son of a Mafia capo. When the worst possible news is confirmed, a witness is enlisted to wear a wire as they go after the suspect. As Medavoy, Jones and McDowell learn the quadruple murder was a robbery gone bad, Sipowicz once again confronts the temptations from the past, anticipating the next day's undercover operation.

When the undercover sting operation to flush out Danny's killer goes bad, there's a major gun battle in the streets of New York between police and a "made" man. Clark acts the hero, saving innocent by-standers, but takes a bullet himself. When Sipowicz guns the suspect down, he becomes a very reluctant New York hero — and finally receives a well-deserved promotion to Detective First Grade. Meanwhile, Rodriguez is furious when his seventy-year-old mother is mugged by a face from his past. When the Lieutenant from another precinct blows the investigation, Rodriguez has to make it personal in order to bring the thug to justice. Also, Medavoy and Jones try to solve an apparent serial-killer targeting NYU students and faculty, and uncover more than they want to about one of the victims.

After the funeral of his old partner, Danny, Sipowicz returns to the squad room and is abruptly teamed with his new partner, John Clark. Clark's father, John Clark, Sr. — Sipowicz's old nemesis at another precinct — butts heads with both Sipowicz and Clark Jr., when he interferes with their first case together, the mysterious stabbing death of a wealthy woman. Meanwhile, McDowell and Jones discover a vintage '56 Les Paul guitar is a key piece of evidence in the death of a young, struggling musician, and leads to the victim's own jealous roommate.The tension between Clark, Jr. and his father rises when Clark, Sr. crashes the 15th's toast to Danny.

What at first seems like a clean murder becomes murky when Clark learns her own disturbed mental state may have played a part in her own murder. After realizing she was murdered for her weapon, despite her mild lunacy, Clark makes the right decision and puts the shooter away. Meanwhile, McDowell is assigned a new partner, none other than Eddie Gibson, a detective who has a reputation for being incompetent. The two investigate the murder of another woman who may have been a victim of spousal or maternal abuse, with a surprising twist. When they learn she was both an alcoholic and suffered from multiple sclerosis, the killer turns out to be from her own family.

Clark's promotion is threatened after a thief steals his badge and then a rash of muggings are reported involving a man flashing the badge. McDowell takes a special interest in a murder investigation involving a pregnant teenager and continues to deal with Eddie Gibson's incompetence.

A murder investigation leads Sipowicz and Clark to a deranged woman who is having an incestuous relationship with her teenaged son, Ortiz and McDowell investigate the death of a child killed by a stray bullet, Connie and Andy take Theo out to the movies, and PAA John gets Andy's advice when considering a trip to Africa with his boyfriend.

Meanwhile, Sipowicz, who's avoiding McDowell after their recent kiss, investigates the murder of a rehabilitated felon whom he had long regarded as a foe; Baldwin is devastated by personal events but restores his friendship with Greg; Rita's husband swears he'll make her life miserable when she says her divorce decision is final; and PAA John's replacement in the squad is not much liked by anyone.

A black man is fatally shot by a white cabbie — who claims self-defense — and Clark defends Ortiz against the advances of a sleazy cop, Laughlin, who then challenges Clark to a boxing match. Meanwhile, Rodriguez fears he's being set up for dismissal on bribery charges, a gay man is killed outside a bar, and PAA John and his father make peace with each other.

When Andy reveals that he knows of Fraker's affair with another cop, Fraker sees the light and drops the investigation against him.

Cops ridicule Clark when they think he is backing out of the big boxing match against Laughlin. Meanwhile, a fireman suspected of raping his estranged wife is also suspected of brutally raping another woman, and a phony physician is found dead in his car. Clark and Laughlin's fight is cancelled by the event organizer, but when they convince him the fight is not a grudge match, he reinstates it. At the fight, Clark knocks out Laughlin, despite taking a nasty, deliberate low blow from his angry competitor. Afterwards, Ortiz arrives at Clark's door to thank him for his chivalry, and Clark and Ortiz spend the night together.

Sipowicz is taken hostage by a gunman in the interrogation room. Meanwhile, a woman is busted for possession of narcotics that her son planted on her, one of three people shot execution-style survives, and Medavoy's daughter threatens to elope because his ex can't face him at the wedding.

Sipowicz and Clark investigate the murder of a deli owner but begin to question the integrity of a robbery detective who is helping them with the case. Ortiz and Ronson eventually find out that Ned met a lady friend on the Internet and he was going to meet her in Little Italy when he was mugged. He was going to loan her the necklace so that she could use it as collateral for a loan for her sick child. The detectives get the PO Box number where Applebaum had sent previous gifts to his lady friend. Ortiz and Ronson go to the apartment of the owner of the PO Box. He is a day trader/con artist who they discover took advantage of Ned Applebaum. They get the necklace back and Ned is forgiven by his wife. Later, Gibson tells Sipowicz and Clark that David Lewis was found DOA in his apartment. They go to the scene and try to determine whether the death was a suicide or not. Sipowicz tries to decide how to proceed with the investigation of Lewis's death; both he and Clark believe that Brockhurst might be involved. Clark gets a call about Dr. Jennifer Devlin and goes to the hospital. The doctor tells her she needs to remain restrained for now, but he is allowed to see her as long as he doesn't loosen her restraints. Sipowicz finds Brockhurst and tells him of his theory that he killed David Lewis. Brockhurst doesn't admit to anything, but tells Sipowicz he is going to be able to sleep tonight now that the case is closed.
