More and more scary
It was worth the time to watch it, at least this time around, but I don't think I'd be interested in a second season. The locale was beautiful and the cast was good, but I found this to be more of a comedy than a scare. I guess if the characters were making good, logical decisions then there wouldn't be so much to fear, but it still annoys me. The lighting was used to good effect - the red and the green lights, were used well to direct attention. I'm not very fond of the overly dark scenes either because I'm old and don't see as well as I used to or perhaps the new TVs make those scenes look better? fI also liked the use of the rapidly flipping pages of the book to separate the "previously on" scenes - it was an intersting effect.
My two rules for horror - horror does not equal torture; there should never be naked, old people unless you are intent on torturing someone and this comes from an old person! Also, if you are in a horrifying situation and you don't grab hands and stay together, you deserve whatever horrifying torture comes your way. Audiences have known this instinctively for many, many decades! Why not surprise us and have folks grab each others' hands and face the horror together; that would be rare and unique!
