Perry Mason has tried his last case — at least for now. HBO has opted not to renew the prequel to the classic series, starring Matthew Rhys and executive produced by Team Downey’s Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey, for a third season.

Langham will appear in the recurring role of Melville Phipps. Phipps is an attorney for a very wealthy oil baroness. Langham joins a cast that includes returning series star Matthew Rhys as well as Juliet Rylance, Chris Chalk, Diarra Kilpatrick, and Eric Lange among many others.

Perry Mason is coming back for a second season at HBO. The network said that the drama, which stars Matthew Rhys in the titular role, was its most-watched series premiere in nearly two years with the premiere episode being seen by 8M viewers. The first season of the eight-part drama launched on June 21.

The 'Americans' grad takes over the role from Robert Downey Jr., who continues to exec produce the long-in-the-works limited series.
