Not an easy first case for the Munich chief inspector Vera Lanz: 24-year-old Kim Landauer, daughter of a prominent innkeeper, fell from the balcony of her apartment after returning from a nightclub - suicide, as it seems at first glance. But soon everything points to murder - by a perpetrator who did not have to force his way into the apartment. The investigation focuses on the victim's 23-year-old ex-boyfriend and his prominent family. Meanwhile, the victim's father apparently holds a former business partner responsible and seems capable of anything in his grief and pain.

When Vera Lanz and Jan Trompeter take over the murder of Nicolas Bluhm, everything initially points to a crime in the hustler milieu. Shortly thereafter, the inspectors manage to track down the alleged perpetrator, hustler Tim Delling - but he too has been brutally murdered in the meantime. Although Delling's girlfriend Azhar is a possible witness, Vera and Jan are groping in the dark for the time being. The unexpectedly early death of a ten-year-old boy who suffered from a serious hereditary disease causes Vera Lanz a headache. When the investigation revealed that the boy had taken part in a series of drug tests and that important tissue samples had disappeared from the forensic department after his death, the alarm bells rang for the inspector. She is certain that someone is trying to cover up the truth surrounding the child's death.

After inspector Vera Lanz began investigating the case of the murdered public prosecutor Marc Berger, she found herself in increasing difficulties: she tried to hide her affair with the victim from her colleagues so as not to be targeted by the investigators herself. The traumatized Diana Schirmer is a witness in the burglary and robbery case in which her husband Uwe died. During the police confrontation, she identifies Frank Jensch as the perpetrator, who is then taken away. The evidence against him is thin, but Diana Schirmer's testimony may be enough for a conviction. But then another fatal burglary happens, following the same pattern. Isn't Frank the culprit after all? Did he have an accomplice? When Vera suddenly discovers that Diana herself had a motive for her husband's murder, the chief inspector has to doubt the credibility of the witness. In addition to the investigation, Vera Lanz has to fight for her own credibility.
The death of multiple murderer Christian Farron, whom the chief inspector claims to have shot in self-defense, is being investigated by internal investigator Dominik Schneider. A corpse dug up by wild boar is found by a hunter in the Forstenrieder forest. The dead man is identified as Simon Sobotka, a skipper and drug dealer who was receiving medical treatment for a brain hemorrhage and was living on a cabin boat on Lake Starnberg. In addition to the friendly boatyard owner Heinkel, the victim seems to have had little social contact, but then Vera Lanz encounters a reference to a former patient at the clinic, who is said to have known Sobotka well. Böhmer has a particularly close and intimate relationship with the prostitute Johanna. Johanna asks him to take care of the young prostitute Tereza, who seems to be involved in an illegal matter - without informing his colleagues. As it turns out, the submerged Tereza is the last to see Moritz alive.
While Böhmer becomes increasingly entangled in a conflict of loyalties – observed suspiciously by his boss – Vera Lanz not only discovers the kidnappers, but also a connection between Christian Helmes and Tereza. This leads the commissioners to a murder case that was covered up a few years ago. When Johanna then disappears without a trace and Böhmer finally finds her dead, Vera has a lot to do to protect her colleague from making a big mistake.

In the last episode of the season, Vera Lanz first has to deal with a bank robbery and a dead bank robber. Questions about the course of action arise early on, since the amount of money stolen appears to be very small. The banker Dirk Brockhausen reports in panic to Vera Lanz: He fears for his life. A short time later he is found dead. Murder and robbery in Munich local transport - for Vera Lanz and her colleagues Trompeter and Böhmer it seems to be an uncomplicated case. Using a video recording, Böhmer can clearly identify the fugitive. But when the colleagues visit his apartment, the dimension of the case suddenly changes. Till Sammer, ex-pimp and junkie sits tied up in his own apartment, threatened by a stranger. In a dramatic exchange of fire, Trompeter shoots the man in self-defense. The victim's car is registered to an old friend: Stefan Hartig. For years, Vera Lanz has been trying to prove that the slippery businessman is doing his shady business - so far without success. Is he being blackmailed? The investigators quickly agree that it must be a kidnapping and that Till Sammer prevented the money from being handed over. But who is the abductee? Hartig's only relative, his luxury son Jakob, is hungover but safe in his penthouse apartment. But Jakob gives the key clue as to who the kidnapping victim is: Johanna Ehrlicher, housekeeper and Stefan Hartig's closest confidante since childhood. To the astonishment of her colleagues, Vera decides to cooperate with Hartig: he gets the money that was secured for the kidnappers, while Vera hopes the housekeeper will give her the crucial information she needs to finally pin Hartig down.

Vera is brutally beaten up by two junkies. At first it looks like robbery and murder, in which Vera's gun is also stolen. But then it turns out that Vera's service weapon was used in an assassination attempt on Heinrich Meindl, a seemingly harmless pensioner - even before the chief inspector was attacked. What is the connection between Vera and Meindl? Vera has to be given a leave of absence, at least officially, although no one believes Vera was involved. When finally an old connection between Meindl and Vera's father-in-law and ex-cop Georg Lanz comes to light, the question seems to have been answered and the suspicion of murder against Georg justified. But then a dark secret emerges in Meindl's past that turns the case around 180 degrees.

The murder of the teacher Bruno Lohmann leads Vera Lanz and her team to a Munich high school. There, the inspectors had to find out that Lohmann was not exactly the popular type of teacher – neither among the students nor among their colleagues and parents. The investigators are confronted with ongoing Abitur exams on site, which put the students under extreme pressure to perform. The investigations focus on the students Julian Schröder, who was caught cheating on the last exam and who is again threatened with being accused of cheating, and the best of the year, Peter Behnke, who was the first at the scene of the crime and whose father Jürgen asked his son to question him want to prevent.
Finally, it turns out that the secretary and mother of the bad student Vanessa Willski had an affair with Lohmann, which ended shortly before. What did the students already have to do to pass the all-important exams? How far does the love of the parents or possibly the pressure of the educational system go?

The brewery owner Ernst Kolbe is found dead in his house. His body was discovered by the real estate agent Sabine Brand and the Schabinsky couple, interested buyers of Kolbe's house. The investigators find it strange that Kolbe had the house secured with locks shortly beforehand, even though it was supposed to be sold. During Vera Lanz' conversations with Kolbe's daughter Julia and further rummaging through the victim's past, inconsistencies arise that make Vera doubt Kolbe's identity. In addition, the victim's brewery was close to bankruptcy. Unlike her father, Julia Kolbe wanted to sell the brewery to the businessman Max Freisinger, who has a not inconsiderable interest in the brewery's property and was forced to come to a conclusion quickly.
When Vera finally uncovers Ernst Kolbe's connections to the BND and even to the Schabinsky couple, she and her team are suddenly confronted with the political past of their murder victim, which they gradually have to shed to solve the case.

Vera Lanz and her team have every reason to celebrate: in a spectacular solo effort, they arrested the long-sought Ingo Blume, godfather of the south-west drug cartel. But after the fall is before the fall: The next mission blows up the victory celebrations just as Vera and Trumpeter are getting closer. Musician Theo Gottlieb was stabbed to death with a pitchfork on his farm. Vera is quickly convinced that Marcus Schüttler, Gottlieb's girlfriend's ex, is the culprit. Munich city center at the best shopping time. Crowds stream through the department store doors. The scenery freezes as a bloodied young woman staggers out of the elevator. Vera Lanz and her colleagues are sure a little later: the victim Sabine Heuchert narrowly escaped a serial killer. Details point to similarities in three other unsolved murder cases. Coincidence drives the investigators into Toni Marschaber's arms. Sabine Heuchert believes that he can identify him as the culprit by his smell. But Marschaber's boss Eberhard Hallhuber can also be linked to one of the victims. Vera Lanz had imagined this reunion with an old colleague differently – Mario Fechter, an undercover agent in a previously sensational case, is shot by an unknown perpetrator. His ex-colleague Bodo Ecker did not survive the attack. Vera and her team are able to identify the culprit via street surveillance: Piet van Meeren. His trail leads directly to his former client, the gambling king Joseph Berlinger. Thanks to Fechter and Ecker, Berlinger was imprisoned until his death. The man hiding near the scene of the crime is Gernot Viehweg, the well-known astrologer and advisor to powerful business leaders. Viehweg admits that Vera was on the run from the tax investigators. After the helicopter landed, an attempt was made to shoot him. Contrary to all suspicions, public prosecutor Huber treats the astrologer with exquisite courtesy. Viehweg's notes can hook a big fish for the public prosecutor's office: the big criminal Manfred Gericke, who is responsible for bribery, drug trafficking and human trafficking.

A shot brings life to a standstill on Munich's Königsplatz. The young pickpocket is dead, a seemingly innocent bystander falls to the ground with a shot in the shoulder. One bullet, two victims and no witnesses. While Vera is still puzzling with her colleagues about the motive for the boy's murder, the case takes a surprising turn at the scene of the crime. The uninvolved Hannes Walther kidnapped the ambulance. For Vera Lanz, all clues for an investigation disappear. Even the bullet is still in Hannes Walther's shoulder. The sympathetic new public prosecutor Sebastian Hartmann also sees little potential for clarification here. The corpse in a Munich body of water does not remain anonymous to Vera Lanz for long. Nadja, 15, criminal record: drugs and prostitution. The only thing that is surprising is her last place of residence: a residential area. The street girl lived in the villa of the couple Beate and Lothar Lukaschek. Former dancer Beate supports social dance projects for girls from difficult backgrounds. Nadja was her flagship project. But for Vera Lanz, the idyll has cracks. David Förster, no stranger to crime, seems to have Trumpeter in his power. When Vera and Böhmer follow Förster's trail, it ends in a dead end: Förster has been in a coma for two days with the consequences of a heart attack. While Vera and Böhmer try to clarify how Förster's DNA got to the crime scene, the gunshot wound forces Trompeter's hostage-takers to hole up in a pharmacy.

After the murder of his family and 16 years in prison, Benno Wiese is free. When he meets Vera Lanz, the past catches up with him: again he is standing next to a corpse. But "the boss" is correct in her assessment: Wiese is innocent, the death of the young man is the result of an accident. Meadow remains free. But now the former perpetrator is being hunted by the neighborhood mobs. The neighbors agree: Benno Wiese has struck again. Vera Lanz and colleagues Böhmer and Trompeter have their hands full protecting the former murderer from the neighborhood and relatives. How dangerous is meadow? Can a repeat offense be ruled out? It is not the first horrific crime scene for Vera Lanz, but perhaps the most absurd: an unrecognizable torso, stowed in a suitcase with the victim's identity card on top. Will more suitcases with body parts show up? Despite the identity of the victim, the traces are desolate. Lanz's only chance would be a witness when the next suitcase was put down. But prosecutor Sebastian Hartmann is reluctant to go public. Even police psychologist Erik Lambert cannot dismiss the hypothesis of a serial offender. When the last suitcase turns up, there is a witness. It is Vera's father-in-law Georg Lanz who must have seen the alleged murderer. Only Georg doesn't remember anything. But the perpetrator does not know that - and Georg is in mortal danger.

Against the backdrop of the Munich Oktoberfest, Vera Lanz has to investigate within her own ranks. Was the shot from colleague Meyer's service weapon an accident? The intuition of chief inspector Lanz is asked: Did her colleague help with an attempted rape, or was he himself involved in the violent crime? Contradictory statements about the course of events make Vera suspicious. It is thanks to Arthur Meyer that young Franziska was not raped by rowdy Philip Loibl. But Loibl was seriously injured by the shot from Meyer's service weapon. He also denies the rape and accuses Meyer of police violence. Since the victim and thus the witness fled and was swallowed up by the face of the earth, it is difficult to prove Meyer's emergency help. In addition, Meyer contradicts himself in his statement about the course of the crime. Franziska answers and makes a statement. Everything seems to have been clarified and the colleague relieved. But then Meyer and Franziska disappear without a trace.

The murder of the chauffeur of the industrialist Elsa Koschwitz leaves only one assumption: a warning from the mafia. But the grand dame of Munich recycling does not share this opinion with Vera Lanz. A fatal attitude, as is shown when Elsa is found shot dead in her villa. Vera Lanz suspects more than a mafia murder behind the crime. What role does family play? Lanz opts for an unconventional means of enlightenment. With the help of his red light contacts, Paul Böhmer determines that Elsa was being forced to sell her company by the Albanian mafia. Heiko Wisotzki has been in prison for drug smuggling for four years. A trial date should now bring him the freedom he longed for. When the application is rejected, Wisotzki takes a female guard hostage and flees. A little later he is found shot dead next to his getaway car. Wisotzki once betrayed his accomplices to the police for a lenient sentence. Dorin Dumitrescu could also have a motive for murder. The passionate policeman was seriously injured by Wisotzki on duty.
