A corpse dug up by wild boar is found by a hunter in the Forstenrieder forest. The dead man is identified as Simon Sobotka, a skipper and drug dealer who was receiving medical treatment for a brain hemorrhage and was living on a cabin boat on Lake Starnberg. In addition to the friendly boatyard owner Heinkel, the victim seems to have had little social contact, but then Vera Lanz encounters a reference to a former patient at the clinic, who is said to have known Sobotka well. The tracks lead chief inspector Lanz to Munich's red light district, with which her colleague Paul Böhmer maintains close contact. Böhmer has a particularly close and intimate relationship with the prostitute Johanna. Johanna asks him to take care of the young prostitute Tereza, who seems to be involved in an illegal matter - without informing his colleagues. As it turns out, the submerged Tereza is the last to see Moritz alive.
While Böhmer becomes increasingly entangled in a conflict of loyalties – observed suspiciously by his boss – Vera Lanz not only discovers the kidnappers, but also a connection between Christian Helmes and Tereza. This leads the commissioners to a murder case that was covered up a few years ago. When Johanna then disappears without a trace and Böhmer finally finds her dead, Vera has a lot to do to protect her colleague from making a big mistake.

In the last episode of the season, Vera Lanz first has to deal with a bank robbery and a dead bank robber. Questions about the course of action arise early on, since the amount of money stolen appears to be very small. Much to Vera's displeasure, her opponent, senior public prosecutor Dr. Seitz got involved in the investigation. But then the inspectors received the news that Seitz's wife had been found dead. Seitz is a suspect and "The Boss" is to investigate and prove his innocence. In the survey of Seitz' ex-girlfriend Ulrike Laske, she confirmed his strong willingness to use violence, which is why she ended the relationship at the time. Seitz is coming under more and more pressure, which Vera doesn't exactly dislike. However, in the Maike Seitz case, she believes in the innocence of the chief public prosecutor.

The victim's car is registered to an old friend: Stefan Hartig. For years, Vera Lanz has been trying to prove that the slippery businessman is doing his shady business - so far without success. The stolen briefcase has another surprise in store: two million in cash. Vera Lanz confronts Stefan Hartig about the money.
Is he being blackmailed? The investigators quickly agree that it must be a kidnapping and that Till Sammer prevented the money from being handed over. But who is the abductee? Hartig's only relative, his luxury son Jakob, is hungover but safe in his penthouse apartment. But Jakob gives the key clue as to who the kidnapping victim is: Johanna Ehrlicher, housekeeper and Stefan Hartig's closest confidante since childhood. The investigators are confronted with ongoing Abitur exams on site, which put the students under extreme pressure to perform. The investigations focus on the students Julian Schröder, who was caught cheating on the last exam and who is again threatened with being accused of cheating, and the best of the year, Peter Behnke, who was the first at the scene of the crime and whose father Jürgen asked his son to question him want to prevent.
Finally, it turns out that the secretary and mother of the bad student Vanessa Willski had an affair with Lohmann, which ended shortly before. During Vera Lanz' conversations with Kolbe's daughter Julia and further rummaging through the victim's past, inconsistencies arise that make Vera doubt Kolbe's identity. In addition, the victim's brewery was close to bankruptcy. Unlike her father, Julia Kolbe wanted to sell the brewery to the businessman Max Freisinger, who has a not inconsiderable interest in the brewery's property and was forced to come to a conclusion quickly.

Böhmer's interrogation of Dennis' mother Liane Bayer provides a crucial clue. Dennis trained at a boxing club that Böhmer is not unfamiliar with. His physical investigations are not without results. Dennis' father, kept secret by Liane for a long time, is said to be Franko Holzinger, a well-known Munich milieu.
Did Holzinger hire the killer to avenge his son? But the DNA test also has a surprise in store for Holzinger: He is not Dennis's biological father. A shot brings life to a standstill on Munich's Königsplatz. The young pickpocket is dead, a seemingly innocent bystander falls to the ground with a shot in the shoulder. One bullet, two victims and no witnesses. While Vera is still puzzling with her colleagues about the motive for the boy's murder, the case takes a surprising turn at the scene of the crime. The uninvolved Hannes Walther kidnapped the ambulance. For Vera Lanz, all clues for an investigation disappear. Even the bullet is still in Hannes Walther's shoulder. The sympathetic new public prosecutor Sebastian Hartmann also sees little potential for clarification here.
