Ashley Thomas was born in Hammersmith, London, England. His mother is Jamaican and his father is Dominican. Thomas attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts, noted for training Amy Winehouse and Adele, among other artists. Under the stage name Bashy, he first gained attention for his debut hip hop single in 2007, "Black Boys." Since then he has released his first studio album Catch Me if You Can (2009), as well as several EPs.
Thomas made his television debut as Wraith, one of the judges on a bizarre dystopian reality show, in the second episode of Channel 4's science fiction series Black Mirror (2011). He later starred as Gil in ITV's miniseries Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands (2016). Thomas' film appearances include Shark (with Colin Salmon), 4.3.2.1 (with Alexander Siddig), The Veteran (with Tony Curran), The Man Inside and Cockneys vs Zombies (with Gary Arthurs). He appeared in the acclaimed HBO limited series The Night Of (2016, with Nabil Elouahabi and Jeffrey Wincott).
