Edward Winter, the Tony Award-nominated actor from the original productions of Cabaret and Promises, Promises, passed away on March 8 in Woodland Hills, CA, due to Parkinson's Disease, as reported by The Los Angeles Times. He was 63 and is best remembered for his role as Col. Flagg on TV's "M*A*S*H." Winter received Tony nominations for his performances as Ernst, the Nazi smuggler in Cabaret, and Sheldrake, the scheming boss in Promises, Promises. The songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David sought to humanize Sheldrake by writing the "I want" song "Wanting Things."
Born in Ventura, CA, Winter began his acting career in 1964, starting with the San Francisco Repertory Theatre before moving to New York. His film credits include "A Change of Seasons," "The Buddy System," and "From the Hip."
