Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Joseph V. Perry began acting in his youth, winning the Glenn Ford Award at Santa Monica High School in 1949, and his success continued in 1952 when he was presented the best actor award at UCLA while earning his degree in theatrical arts.. His early credits include several television guest appearances in Crossroads and Lux Video Theatre.
Joseph V. Perry died of complications due to diabetes, with his character's last appearance as Nemo, pizza restaurant owner on the series Everybody Loves Raymond, being aired posthumously.
