Born in born in Eccles, Greater Manchester, Benedict Wong studied performing arts at Salford City College. After college he struggled to find work, and was often sidelined at auditions. He landed his first role at age 22 in a 1992 episode of Screenplay, followed in 1993 by a guest role on the series Last of the Summer Wine.
