Ashley Benson, who plays Hanna on the series, is a huge fan of this band called The Pierces (a Los Angeles-based pop/rock duo formed by sisters Allison and Catherine Pierce), especially of their song Secret. Reportedly, Benson pitched the song to the show's producers, and they liked it so much that they made it the Pretty Little Liars theme song. Therefore, even though, she's not singing on the track or playing any instruments, Ashley Benson is, in a way, directly responsible for making the Pretty Little Liars theme song what it is.
