Stiller has said in many interviews that the overall series arc is already planned and there will be no deviations, which is good.
But the writing and the direction are too good to not be optimistic, at least imho. Thankfully it's not Netflix, they pull the plug very easily.
I expect there's going to be a punishing cliffhanger for a season 2 ending, though, it's unavoidable
That's good to know they're not shooting from the hip. It's not that I'm being impatient. I don't mind waiting for a story to develop but, my fear was/is they will get all crazy with possibilities then go out for a pack of smokes and never return. I don't usually like to research a show while it's still running or I'm still binging. Sometimes you see something you didn't want to know yet. You're right about the cliffhanger. It felt like 10 years after the end of season 1.

I wasn't even thinking about her sketches and the discussion with her mother. I get all the other stuff about the cult (obvious from very early on, praise Keir and all) and her being ostracised. Other than the reveal that she originated the idea of severance and it was basically stolen by Eagan, I thought the rest of the episode was dreary (I know) storywise and I really don't think it changed much. There's probably some vengeance in store since the Cobel character obviously isn't done yet. I still think the writers get a little distracted or disoriented or something. I hope they can keep from going off the rails.

the revelation changes the entire show, especially as far as she is concerned and explains why her character behaves like that, in and out of work.
she had the severed floor because she invented the procedure and was probably the most knowledgeable person to guide it.
She cares for her work=Mark so much she lives next door to monitor her most prized worker at all times, she has no life apart from watching/managing him and the floor but basically him, without him there's no work
The work is so important to her not only because of the procedure/her life's work and the eventual outcome (Cold Harbor, her literal birth place, the place that made her into what she is)
but because it's also the only thing giving meaning to her life at this point, without her work she is just a cult member ousted from the cult, aimless, betrayed, no family, no boyfriend, no friends, nothing, the work is all there is
they took the actual modern workplace and made it into a metaphor for cults imagine inventing something for a company, sacrificing everything and suddenly upper management removing you and putting you on the street like you don't matter: that's Harmony Cobel
before, Cobel was a cartoonish villain, now she has a backstory and although she's still batshit insane, you understand why she behaves like this
God I love this show

Did it really show her possessiveness of the severed floor? Maybe I missed something but, I don't want to rewatch it. Also, the severed floor was her only authority yet, at times, they portray her as top of the food chain. I like the show and have to find out what happens. I just think there are a lot of incongruities.
people!!! spoilers!!!! beware!!!!

Why would she live next door and befriend Marc, why she desperately wants the severed floor it all makes sense now and a very delicate examination of why Arquette's character is this way, simultaneously a true believer and a hurt/rogue agent in this whole thing
and also one of the biggest revelations so far in the show "She overestimakes her contributions" wtf?! no wonder she's pissed!! they probably thought, why take 2 minutes in each ep and not do one-and-done, I get it
Best show on tv!

The last 6 minutes were ok as they are. The first 30mn? Should have been done in about 5-6mn/ There is really not enough in here to make a whole episode. And I'm getting tired of chracters acting weird just for the sake of it. It ruins any connection we may have to them and that has been the issue with Harmony since the beginning. Pretty episode, but boring and deserving the overall quality of show.
So, 37 minutes minus credits... 35 minutes too long. This was the dullest, most boring disappointment.
The writing was reminiscent of a schoolkid trying to turn a hundred word essay into a thousand word essay. The directing was noticeably bad and I'm getting tired of Patricia Arquette's acting.

It wasn't necessary to split this off into it's own episode. The important bits could have been spliced into a normal episode.
Loved the episode

Sorry, but I expect more from this show.
