Sesshōmaru ("Destruction Of Life") is the son of Tōga ("Fighting Fang") and a Mother whose name is a secret, a former ruling family of The West. Their Empire has since been conquered by Naraku. It is up to the surviving family and their friends to reclaim their land again. Due to the slow pace of the episodes, Sesshōmaru began as a recurring character until the end of InuYasha: The Final Act, where he did not appear in only five episodes. Sesshōmaru was nowhere near ready to take on the throne, and InuYasha never got along with each other. A battle with swords resulted in Sesshōmaru losing his left arm, and for the longest time was unable to regenerate it. Naraku recruited Sesshōmaru with the reward of a new arm, but failed to slay InuYasha. Sesshōmaru occasionally attempted to use the arms off of dead bodies to no avail. Sesshōmaru kept his distance from every body else, with people believing that he is malevolent. They did not know that he was pursuing Naraku out of personal revenge. Sesshōmaru observed the failed missions of InuYasha such as the constant stalemates as a result of Kohaku being held hostage. He decided to make plans rescuing Kohaku. During his pursuit, he encountered Kagome being choked and strangled to death until he intervened. Another time Sesshōmaru regained consciousness after Rin saved his life. And of course, there is Jaken, who is by Sesshōmaru after his home was conquered. Sesshōmaru encountered Kōga ("Steel Fang") where the two gladly saved each other's lives. In each of these occurrences, both men made up excuses as to why they did it, and refused to express gratitude when being assisted. Eventually, Sesshōmaru visited His Mother, requesting a new sword for Rin. She told him about the two swords: InuYasha's Tessaiga ("Metal Slicing Fang"), and Sesshōmaru's Tensaiga ("Heavenly Rebirth Fang"), are derived from Tōga's Fangs. Both of these swords are equally important and can do different things. He is still relevant with only the one sword, and needs to let InuYasha be. She also taught Sesshōmaru how fragile life is, and revived Rin, despite Tensaiga being able to do so only once. She also warned him to look after Rin as should she die ever again, it must be permanent. This also helped Sesshōmaru evolve into a Daiyōkai ("Powerful Supernatural Creature", or "Great Supernatural Creature", usually just "Great Demon") able to reclaim their empire. His left arm finally regenerated and with a new sword, Bakusaiga ("Explosive Crushing Fang"), and is practically invincible. He married Rin since she saved his life once, and His Mother saving her helped him to live life, and they had two daughters together: Towa and Setsuna. His Empire is now being threatened by The East, since Zero, delusional since Tōga's death, commands that those with Human Biology, especially Sesshōmaru's daughters, and Rin, to be executed. She holds Rin hostage while the daughters fend for themselves. Zero's actions also puts InuYasha and his family in danger, resulting in Jaken, Sesshōmaru, and Sesshōmaru's Mother transporting InuYasha and Kagome to Tōga's Realm and Moroha living with Kōga. An Arson Attack resulted in Towa being transported to Modern Tokyo, and eventually returns to protect Setsuna. Sesshōmaru, being the son of Tōga, is recruited into battle against The Grim Comet by Kirinmaru, who secretly is one of Towa's school teachers. Setsuna kills Zero, not knowing that Rin might die as well. Sesshōmaru's Mother learns about this, and does not approve. Sesshōmaru revives Zero with Tenseiga, which Zero responds in disgust. She breaks Tenseiga in half, which Sesshōmaru can no longer use. He gives the sword to Towa since she can use broken swords easily.
