Dr. Joel Fleischman

Doctor Joel Fleischman is from New York City. He is of Arab and Russian lineage with Jewish affiliation. Alaska used to be a part of Russia. Despite this, he is not rich, and loathes Alaska. He took a loan from Alaska to pay for Medical School and was recruited to stay in Anchorage. During his transport to Alaska, he was illegally traded to practice in Cicely instead. Since he is a man of conventional science, he does not understand the Supernatural Events that are spread across Alaska. A running gag is that numerous people are able to practice medicine and heal people which makes him frustrated about being stuck in Alaska. There are numerous times people tried to make him more comfortable. Native Americans particularly invited him to participate in Sweat Lodges, Parades, and even adopted him as grandson. Native Americans are usually communal people. A running gag is when Ed lets himself in Joel's house. Joel's mother Nadine is more accepting of Native American Animal Religions when Marilyn's told a story about listening that saved her life. Joel was engaged to be married, but she leaves him for a gold digging situation. He is forced to work with Maggie and they take out their frustrations on each other. They discover that they are compatible and become engaged until Maggie's curse reaches him. Joel becomes a fugitive until his contract is finally released.
