Laurie Martin

Laurie Martin is the former opposition leader during the Anderson and Bauer federal coalition governments. He is seen to be very much a political creature who has risen to the top of the Labor pile through vigorous factional battles. He is seasoned, disciplined, opportunistic, cunning as well as cynical, machiavellian. He is at times arrogant and his negative character traits get the better of him such as when he underestimates Alex Irving's political adaptability and resourcefulness, as well as when his colleague Paul Murphy successfully challenges him for party leadership, ultimately spelling the end to his long political career.
