Sonja Harper

Sonja (pronounced Sonia) is the first child of Vinton, and first son of Vinton, and only stepdaughter of Naomi. She was added to the family at the N.B.C.'s request to include children. Thus "Mama's Family" literally describes Vinton and Naomi's unit. She was 16 years old. Vinton's children were dropped from the cast when it went to first run syndication. Since time went by in between the two incarnations of Mama's Family, they ostensibly graduated from High School, and moved away to University. However, Thelma is depicted quickly mentioning that they do not live nearby any more, and seem to be forgotten. Buzz and Sonja's biological mother most likely was from Latin America, and currently lives in Nevada, inspired from Las Vegas Gambit. It is possible that Buzz and Sonja's university is also in Las Vegas. While a loyal member of The Harper Family, she is also a very assertive teenager that regularly clashed with them.
