Dr. William Chambers

Dr William Chambers is a proud, intelligent man who can come across as arrogant because apart from not suffering fools gladly, he's actually shy and incapable of small talk. Conservative in outlook, he believes that a woman's place is in the home, not in the workplace. He grew up in New South Wales and studied at Sydney University and St Thomas's Hospital in London.

He moved to New Zealand, eventually taking a teaching position at Otago University where he met the beautiful, exciting and infuriating Bea Smith

Here's what Tom O'Sullivan has to say about his character:
"William was a medical officer who goes off to Gallipoli. I think he's quite an enlightened guy - he's not doing it for glory of Empire or King and Country. He sees it as his duty as a doctor to help out wherever he can. He's got quite a sceptical view of that particular campaign and tries to do his bit to minimize the damage I suppose.

All four of my grandparents fought in World War II. I'm Australian, and so growing up you hear a lot about the ANZAC legend and it's such a vital part of Australia history and New Zealand history. So it's great to be playing something that although it was a hundred years ago, it's about a very momentous thing that happened."
