Ted Baxter is the news anchor of WJN-TV Minneapolis - St. Paul Minnesota DMA. He is usually not seen in the newsroom but rather is in the back in his own dressing room or at the anchor desk. His main show is "The Six O'Clock News". A secondary show is "The Ted and Georgette Show".
Ted's personality is usually benevolent, but is also a foil to newcomer Mary Richards, who is his boss. He frequently challenged her authority. Otherwise he is an accident-prone character that goofs on air during numerous times and not to be taken seriously. On the contrary however, he is a skilled game show host.
Ted entered the room by saying "Hi, Guys!" which is a catch phrase of actor Ted Knight. Ted is also named after his actor. He is the second character to be named after their actor or actress.
