Episode Discussion

This episode features a strudel behind the gate, probably caused by the extreme forces working on the wormhole. This effect has not been seen since the Stargate film.

Sally Malcolm has written two books, A Matter of Honor and The Cost of Honor, that feature an effort by SG-1 to save SG-10 from the black hole using a ship and stolen Anti-gravity shield five years later. They succeed in rescuing all but one of SG-10 who is incinerated by the heat from Vorash's sun before they can escape.

This episode marks the first time O'Neill is left in charge of Stargate Command, albeit temporary. He would later assume full command of the facility in "New Order, Part 2" when Major General George S. Hammond is promoted to head of Homeworld security and he is promoted to Brigadier General.

On other occasions, the memory of the incident with the P3W-451 helped SG-1 solve or understand their current problem. For example, in the Season 9 episode "Ripple Effect." In that episode, a version of Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter from an alternate reality refers to this episode, indicating that these events likewise occurred in her reality.

The P3W-451 black hole is used by SG-1 for a variety of tasks, notably to siphon away enough stellar material to cause Vorash's sun to go Supernova in "Exodus" and to indirectly attack the Aschen in "2001".

In this episode, Colonel Frank Cromwell is dispatched by The Pentagon and Major Paul Davis by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In future collaborations, Davis liaises with The Pentagon.

This is the first time the 38 minute window is mentioned in this reality.

Colonel Jack O'Neill saw the first black hole in the Stargate universe in "Singularity", though at a safe distance. His astronomy hobby is demonstrated in both episodes, as he instantly recognizes a black hole and its implications.
