Writer Aglaya Ermolaeva accidentally knocks down her literature teacher Alexander Sergeevich Smirnov, whom she was madly in love with at school. The teacher was miraculously unharmed, but it turns out that he became a victim of fraud, lost his apartment and now has nowhere to live. His son Mitya soon becomes homeless too — his wife expels him from the house and changes the locks.
