Probably THE BEST episode of Twilight Zone. Even if it's not your favorite. Because it was a stark warning when it aired and it has fallen on deaf ears for decades. This episode could've been made today and be just as, if not more, relevant than when it aired. But it wouldn't be made today for the very point that was made in the episode.

Sigh. Awfully disturbing that this racist, anti-immigrant, xenophobia with "enemies lists" is not only STILL around but running our government.

It's like they watched this episode for pointers.  Twisting the language to disavow bigotry to falsely claim oppression &  victimhood in order to incite others.  How to dehumanize others. How to rile a mob.  Falsely blaming "communists" for their own mistakes. Trying to claim they're not spreading hate, that they have some high-minded "philosophy", railing against "softness". Falsely accusing others to further the agenda, sacrificing people to further their own interests. Using words like "vermin" and "infected".

Like the regular citizens in the episode they were "too monsterous, so we ignored them, or laughed at them, because we couldn't believe there were enough insane people to walk alongside of them"  ... and now we rendition people to torture gulags.
